Hello everyone, I am new and a little lost

 Hi, my name is Mae and I found this site looking for info. on cymbalta. I have been seeing a number of doc.s in the last year for pain through out my hips and leggs mostly at first but, now it seems it is all over my body. I am 29 years old and newly married. I feel like I am too young to have such pain. I was in a horrible car accident about 10 years ago that left me with a head injury, short term memory loss, and I had to learn things all over again...even my name. I am wondering if this could have something to do with my pain and if so...why did it not show up for such a long time. The injury also left me only producing 70% of the seritonin in my brain. Therefore I have to take antidepressants. I am in the process of coming off zoloft and starting cymbalta but, I am nervous. Does anyone have any help?

littlelmk--

--the immediate thought I had might be that you could have a form of Central Pain Syndrome, which sometimes happens to people who have strokes, MS, or brain/spine injury due to accidents. What happens is that the spinothalamic pain tracts in the upper spinal cord, or the thalamus, which is a sensory relay station between brain and cord, is itself damaged, and these areas can no longer properly mediate pain sensations coming from the body. Often then one will suffer burning, shooting, electrical pain of a distinctly different character from "normal" nociceptive pain.

Take a look at www.centralpain.org to see if the descriptions sound like what you are experiencing.

Hello Littlelmk and welcome to NeuroTalk.

This is a link to a thread on the Medication forum regarding Cymbalta
http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/sh...ad.php?t=12742

I have been using Cymbalta for about a year and a half and like how it has helped some (not all) of my neuropathic pain. Keep in mind everyone will react differently to meds - what might work for one person does not work for another.
