Sleeping and symptons.....

I realize sleeping is an issue for if not all of us at least most of us , my question is does anyone else have their symptoms exacerbate while sleeping ? I have the increased perspiration through out the day , however when I fall asleep I awaken literally drenched from head to toe on the effected side , also the hypersensitivity is markedly increased and it seems the increased burning sensation is what wakes me . One more question is the sleep itself (or lack of) though I feel like crud when I first wake up I feel like I probably had slept for a couple of hours minimum only to find it was only 30 or so minutes . These may be the norm for this crazy stuff but even though I have been fighting it for over 10 years I am still learning....Hope all are doing well and take care !

I have the same problem.... Trying to sleep no matter what I do I can not sleep very long at a time. I wake up sweating and in severe pain and take another pain pill....I work 8 hours a day and feel sleepy all day.. Need some help......

Hi, I have been sleeping much better since starting Lyrica along with my other meds. I no longer wake up in agony or drenched with sweat. Some medications will cause increased sweating at night. You might want to contact Mrs. D about that since she is so knowlegable about drugs and supplements. I also remember a thread earlier this year that was about this. Lisa

Just curious if any of you tried Elavil. I had all of the same problems until I started taking about 65mg per night of that along with Tryptophan. Another Dr prescriibed Noritriptyline but I've been so happy with the Elavil that I didn't want to switch.

I do still have my occassional sleepless nights or ones where I felt like I never really slept well but overall, I've seen an approvement.

I consider Elavil and Nortriptyline pretty interchangable. Very similar MOA

Has anyone had any luck with Melatonin ?

I had trouble with the Elavil. It can cause heart problems, and this is an off-label side effect. I was also told that this is not a good drug choice for long-term use by my PC doc. I know that it works well for some people and it actually worked for me until the heart problems. Lisa

I was taking 5 melatonin per night along with Tryptophan, klonopin. advil/tylenol PM plus my pain meds.

While the meltatonin plus tryptophan did help me fall asleep, I would inevitably wake up within 3 hours drenched in sweat and in horrible pain. Usually it would then be dawn before I could fall asleep again.

I do think it's worth trying if you're at a different stage but if you're in a flare, I'm afraid it's fairly useless. :(

It was an ER doc that suggested I switch to Noriptriptyline {sp} which I didn't do only because the Elavil at 75 mg has really helped me sleep (and gain weight). :(

Yes my sleep is horrid and my pain gets very bad at night. I have tried multiple meds for assistance but nothing helps. The other morning I was crying from lack of sleep, pain, frustration. Though it has not helped me sleep serequel has helped my friend with rsd. Also not for pain but trazadone helps some.
Red I am not sure how often you are taking tylenol pm but nightly I thought that was not good for the liver?

Daniella,

I only took the tylenol or Advil PM back before I knew I had RSD when I thought it was still ust botched spinal surgeries.

At this point, I do take Toradol but other then that, very little NSAIDS or tylenol preps. I have taken Trazodone a few times for sleep and found if only used once in a while, it works very well. Not one I'd want to use on a regular basis tho due to side effects.
