Looking for info on AD

Hi everyone,

Found this site as I googled for more info/hope. I've had AD for 6 years after a motorcycle accident and my jaw being crushed.

Looking for hope and maybe someone else to understand. I know and I just saw that there are others like me. I don't feel like anyone around me really understands what day-to-day is like. I put on my "everything is ok" face, no one really realizes.

Just really having a hard time right now...

HI, You are in the right place for help and caring and kindness. There are several of us in this section of Neruo Talk that have ad. I had trigeminal neuralgia, which surgery took care of, but I was left with AD. It was nothing that that the doctors could do about it or caused it. I am having the stimulator surgery tomorrow morning to help with the pain for my ad. It is late and need to go to bed; but will contact you when I am able. If you will pm a message to burnmarshmello....she can help you a lot. Hers was caused from an auto accident that crushed her jaw. You and her will have a lot in common. Glad to came to the site. Looking forward to helping you in the future.

Hi Kerry I am sorry you are living with such pain.I had my lower jaw broken on each side due to semi trailer truck hitting me from behind.I had jaw wired for 18 weeks then the wires came off and I went another 2 months before x-rays showed my jaw still broken. I had steel plates and screws put in on each side of lower jaw. the pain the pain...no meds helped ..long story short I was the first in USA to try neuro stim /PNS . It saved my life.

Wow - is all I can say. years of thinking I was alone, or almost alone.

I had my motorcycle wreck Halloween of 2004. Broke my jaw in three places. C5-C7 fx, first rib fx..etc.etc..Then unwired me and let me go on the plates and screws they had put in, a few weeks later the pain was still awful and my use of pain meds was going up not down. I called them, they did a CAT scan, said they couldn't find anything wrong, brushed me off and gave me a heard time about the pain meds. I went to an oral/maxiofacial surgeon - he did a panoramic x-ray and obvious as can be my right side of my jaw - still broken. I had a big break on the right side, and infection had set in as well. More plates, more screws and wired shut using archbars this time. I think I was wired shut for 5 months or so. After that surgery I had this numbing, burning pain that I still have. The Dr. told me they hoped in would go away in a few months - no luck. Pain meds, anti-convulsants, anti-depressants, even local novocaine shots did nothing, or even made the pain worse (neurotin). I went to Duke, I thought at the time my last hope. They offered me the motor cortex stim surgery, but with only very little chance of any success. So I decided to just deal with and move on. I've done pretty good, I think.
I don't know if maybe I'm having one of my flare-ups again, or just finally starting to break from trying to keep the "everything is ok" face on when I just want to rip the side of my face off.

Thank you so much. You have given me a gift I haven't had lately...Hope.

*happy tears*

 I am meeting family  .
wow we have lots in common as far as face, jaw issues. I am sure you have had your fair share of blender gack and of course the ever so nice shoving of medications threw the wires when jaw was wired. ha you know Pizza in blender is a NO no!
My lower right jaw is where my v-3-(lower branch of the trig nerve) snapped. I ended up with A.D. and a steel plate that is very close to the snap.
they told me give it a few months to calm down ..then it was try this med try that one . just growing worse the pain . allergic to anti seizure meds too.
so off to experts and referred to pain specialist had 2 options a pain pump implanted in back of my skull. first try morphine by i.v. but it did not help so was left with last option . the PNS / Neuro Stim . I have had it since July of 2002 . It gave me my life back. I work now and live a somewhat normal life.
I am NOT pain free ! I am just able to control the pain, manage the pain so much better with my PNS implant.
so can I ask what area are the worst?
for me it is the inside of mouth along gum line inside of cheek .lower lip chin lower right side of face and jaw. kissing is still not the funnest thing to do even with my pns.
Do you see a pain specialist or a neuro doc?? I WOULD NOT do motor cortex without first trying PNS !
here is thread from the top of forum explains about PNS, Neuro Stim.... it helps A.D. ,Bi-Lat ,Atypical ... O,.N. and MANY other conditions !

I have lots of chores to do my friend BUT we must get to talk more !
Your not alone , There IS HOPE . we are all in this together and here to help each other find and keep HOPE. so we can get threw the days and nights the best we all can.
Glad you found us.
PEACE
