Ooh this could be a problem. I am going to an auction
Saturday morning I am going to a Phoenix Police Auction.
I used to LOVE to go to auctions. I went to look, not buy. and am "sorta" good at not buying any junk I don't "need" but this auction has some really great goodies. I could pick up a 42" Vizio LCD tv for the bedroom, current bid is $60.00. They have online and live bidding. I am sure it will go for higher but who knows. Last auction I went to (10 years ago) I got an antique radio (the big furniture box kind) for $1.00, a food dehydrator for 50 cents and some other things, oh, a wheel barrow for $2.00. I LOVE waiting until nobody else is bidding on an item and raising my hand and saying $1.00 or something crazy like that. Anyone here like to go to auctions? To me they are like garage sales on steroids. I will let you know what I come home with. |
There are auctions all around where I live. its a way of life here. There is much junk, and some treasures. the key is to preview the auction before its time. Have a set price in mind, and STICK TO IT! As long as you are getting dollar treasures, go have fun! but if you are spending hundreds, then put your hands in your pockets and just watch the fun.
I hope you get the TV. |
waitin to hear the results:rolleyes:

Lol they are garage sales on steroids! I haven't been in years but I used to love them and have gotten some great buys as well as plenty of stuff that I totally didn't need. I have more than a few beautiful stain glass hanging lamps that are not even installed and more antique medicine cabinets than any home needs, lol.
In general I'm pretty sensible and frugal but for some reason at a good auction my bidding hand just flies up on its own accord...probably due to the fact I have MS. Yeah thats it my spasticity caused me to bid on it. :D |
My dad used to go all the time and would get lots of junk and a few treasures. Our boys loved some of the junky mechanical toys their grandpa would find for them. :D Our youngest son got a wind up chicken that waddled, cheeped and twirled and had real feathers. I looked mortified when he opened it but it was his favorite gift that day, lol.
At our wedding we got a used toaster oven from dad and DH was not impressed and peeved for a long time, lol. :D He got used to my dad though and learned to love him for his good points like I did. :o :D Have fun but don't go crazy! :) |
I bought my last house at auction.... but the process scared the pants off me !
I thought it was my bid until I suddenly realised the auctioneer was asking me if I wanted to go again, and the bid was against me. I nearly froze but thank goodness I didn't, because I just put up one more bid and the house was mine. Never again though. It was far too scary for me. |

the auction was a lot of fun, but there were a TON of people there. They have these auctions twice a month and they are stuff seized at police auctions, and other stuff that people bring in. Some stuff went for good prices, some for inflated prices. I brought my neighbor who is a hoarder (if you have seen the shows, you know what I am talking about. His house I can not get in with my walker because he has pathways surrounded by toys. He buys kids toys at Goodwill and sells them (or more often keeps it) he says it is his retirement, when he retires he will sell all of it. He bought 3 items for a total of $40 (bags of kids toys) I bought one lot, this consisted of 4 (count em four) waterpic dual head shower heads. One head is stationary and one is on the hose and is either hand held or mounts by the other one so you get two different sprays of water at the same time. They are new in the box and retail for $60.00 each, I bought all 4 for $8.00. We will probably go back in a month or so but next time I want to have some more money. The buy of the day for someone else was a 52 inch Vizio LCD TV for $142.00, it's about 2 years old and new go for a grand. . |
way back when.... I think I was 19 or so... I worked for an auto auction co. We had the state contract for seized vehicles and impounds that were never claimed. I needed a car, (by need, I mean I was driving a 79 olds that was possessed and spending $100 a week in gas ...when gas was $.99 a gallon!!), so i scrimped and saved and put away $2000 to buy a car. Ended up getting the car I wanted for $1000. Took the other money and bought a second car on the same day for $900. Put it on Craigslist and sold it for $1600. I kept doing this for about a year. Then I ended up with 4 cars in the driveway that nobody wanted to buy and I ended up $100 in the hole. Decided it was time to stop.
Auctions are awesome! Last year i bought 2 invicta watches *retail $400 each, a Stuhrling watch, a Victoria Crown and Co necklace *retail $800, and a cool car shaped radio as a lot for $12! And they even threw in free shipping! It was my best buy ever! |
