Newbie with Botox question

I am new and need some information. I fell out of a chair at work onto my shoulder. I am having shoulder, neck and back pains... no drugs have been able to help the pain or the spasams in my shoulder. My doctor wants to give me Botox shots. :eek: Has anyone heard of that procedure and what were the effects. I know that Botox is somewhat new and I don't know the contraindicators behind that. Today is Thursday and I will see my physician on Monday to discuss the shots so I need to make up my mind. I thought I had and would have the shots but I am Afraid! AFRAID!!! I am also on a lot of psychotgrophic drugs. :Dunno:

I just wanted to say hello and send a welcome.
I can't really give you any advice about the botox, I'm sorry. I'm heard of it used in some children here in my country who have cerebral palsy and I know it's very occasionally used for a couple of other medical conditions, but that's about all I know apart from what I've read. I'm just wondering what sort of injury you actually sustained to cause you so much pain and all those muscle spasms. Has the doctor given you the psychotrophic drugs to help you deal with the pain? I didn't quite understand if that's what you meant or if you were already on those.

I truly wish you all the best for your decision and I hope in the meantime that you can find some information where it's been used for similar situations such as yours.

is not really new. It started out long ago for neck spasms..a rare condition
called spasmotic torticolis. It has only been the last couple of years it has
branched out to plastic surgery of the face and wrinkle reduction.

It can work for spasms. But it won't change inflammation or arthritis.
It relaxes muscles only, preventing uncontrollable spasms.

I have botox done every 3 months into my neck, shoulder and hands. it is very effective. I have had no side effects from it, apart from major frustration as it wears off (you can develop a tolerance to it - but as I guess you will only have one course that won't affect you). It's abit sore getting the injections - and it's not good if you're scared of needles (Eg me!)...

Regarding Botox question, I also was afraid of Botox since I would NEVER consider it for my face as so many of my friends have. But my Pain Management doctor finally had it approved for Thorocic Outlet Sydrome, I felt I had to through it. I must say it instantly worked for me!! For the first time in years I could finally sleep lying down in bed rather than a sitting up position. I personally felt as if a miracle had happened. But I also had one of the best doctors (Dr. Sydney Sheldon). I am sure there are many other drs. that can perform as well. Just keep a very positive attitude and remember it works longer for some than others. When I had Rotator Cuff Surgery on both shoulders, I was not able to take ANY pain meds. since I was allergic to all that was prescribed me and that was horrible. At least the first one. So if any one wants info on what to do pre and post RTC surgery just ask. pdspas@earthlink.net
