This is weird but has anyone suffered with phantom periods?

Hi, I am new to posting here but I am looking for hopefully other women that understand my situation. I am 29 years old and I had to have a complete hysterectomy when I was 25 and they took my last ovary that I had left and my cervix it was due to severe endometriosis and PCOS. Anyway, I am on HRT and the last few months I feel like I am having a period again! Horrible crampy pain, bloating, headaches, fatigue everything except the bleeding of course. At the same time I am also still having hot flashes and menopause symptoms too. I honestly feel like I am going crazy because nothing is in there and my stomach doctor checked me all out so that is not the cause either. After doing some research I did see that its possible that endo can flare up again if it was not all taken out and that hysterectomy would not cure it. Of course, my doctor told me that hysterectomy would fix it but here we are 4 years later and everything is feeling like that horrible pain again :( I made an appointment with a new gyn because my pain and symptoms are getting so much worse! I just wondered if anyone else had gone through this or knows what I am talking about. Thanks for listening~Tara

Hi Tara, I'm so sorry that you're still suffering after having the surgery that was supposed to fix those symptoms!

Sadly, there are a number of conditions that could be causing your symptoms, but by far the 3 most common causes would be Endometriosis in your pelvic cavity, ovarian cysts or IBS.

I see you've already been checked by your 'stomach' doctor, so I daresay IBS has pretty much been ruled out, but probably not ovarian cysts, or a spread of that Endo.

I would have thought that an abdominal ultrasound would be the next step for you, as a scan could diagnose and/or rule out, both ovarian cyts and pelvic scatters of the Endo.

The headaches and the fatigue could well be side effects of this pain that's obviously been getting you down for some time. I'm not one to suffer from depression or anxiety, but I do know that chronic pain will bring on these extra symptoms in me too. Maybe it's the same for you as well.

Anyway, I hope that was helpful in some way and I do hope your answers aren't too far away. Please come back soon and tell us how you're getting on. :)
