I think im Lymed!

I have been having these chronic health problems for a while on and off.

I am a 21 year old male from sydney, australia.

The symptoms started 2 years ago and i have never really felt right 100% like i was before.

They are: Joint pains, creaking/cracking of joints/feeling stiff, neurological symptoms, goosebumps down limbs, tingling, numbness, pain, electric shock type feelings through the arms and the back of my head. Trouble walking legs feeling like jelly, muscle weakness, smell/taste loss, eye floaters which look wormlike, feeling hot and cold, night sweats, trouble concentrating, reading, comprehending information, problems with short-term memory, and fatigue. Constant awakening from sleep, heart palpitations and arrithmiyas, feeling like bugs or worms crawling under my skin, itchy skin, neck stiffness.

After i tried using erythromycin for 2 weeks for a seemingly unrelated sinus infection many of these symptoms seemed to start clearing up spontaneously to my surprise and amazement. Subsequently off antibiotics they began to get worse again.

So if antibiotics are helping i'm not going to stop since no doctor has been able to diagnose what is wrong with me which seems to be common with people suffering from Lyme disease.

I was thinking of asking my doctor for a trial of doxycycline for the simple suspicion that this all could be in fact lyme disease and if all my symptoms do further improve than this is what could be going on.

I will try to do a Western Blot analysis if i can.

can anyone tell me if these symptoms seem specific for this disease?

Or could i possibly have a co-infection with other parasites of somesort?

How can i find out?

Hi Metalmx,

I have/had your exact same symptoms (and more) and highly suspected Lyme. Some symptoms did resolve while I was on Doxycycline....but my blood tests are still coming back negative.....and certain symptoms are lingering.

Did you ever find out if you indeed had Lyme?

After 28 yrs of suffering the exact same symptoms you have + a whole lot more, I have had negative Elisa test. but a + Melisa Lymphocyte Transformation Test.... result = Active Borreliosis burgdorferi sensu stricto....the USA brand.
This test was done in a German Lab.
Elisa tests are only up to 30% accurate, not a good test but that is all they can get at this time. the Manufacture of the test that is used in England says this and recommends that the doctors diagnose on clinical grounds.
Good Luck.

Keep going

Even with negative tests, keep them treating you. This is lyme until somebody finds some better diagnosis which responds to treatment as well as you respond to antibiotics. I was sick for 15 years before I was diagnosed. It took one year of antibiotics, but I am better, and I am living a full life. I'd forgotten what that looked like.

I suggest the lymenet.org board to find a lyme literate doctor near you, if you are having problems. And in the US, bloods sent to a lab specializing in tick borne disease. And don't forget they must test for those co-infections...

Just advocate for yourself...you're on the right track.
