just diagnosed w/ np

hi my name is jon, i'm 57 years old.. starting about a month ago i began having burning skin sensations all over my body then in particular my hands and feet... not terribly painful but annoying and sometimes kept me awake. went to neurologist last week and after doing some testing said i had sensory neuropathy...he starting me out on .25 elavil to be taken at bedtime...and ran a bunch of blood tests....waiting for results......i've been taking prilosec daily for a few years and have read here that it can cause a vitamin b-12 deficency.. i was wondering if it should start taking b-12 before i get my test results which may take a week or two... i would imagine the blood tests he ordered would look for vitamin deficiencies....any recomendations????
thank you,
jon

Jon Mark

I am one of the better success stories with B-12. I take one of the better forms of B-12, Methyl B-12.

Most of the B-12 that is found in the little bottles in the stores contain Cyanocobalamin and our bodies convert this to Methylcobalamin.

So when I developed neuropathy (I'm a diabetic), I immediately knew what I had to do.

Best decision I ever made.

Of course, I also control my blood sugar like crazy but that's easy for me, because I don't want to ever have the pain of PN anymore.

So far, so good.

So go and poke around our neuropathy forums, read up on what I and many others have posted on Methyl B-12.

You'll make your own decision of what you should do.

But PLEASE be aware that when you get your blood test results, what THE LAB CONSIDERS NORMAL, is not necessarily normal.

My recent B-12 levels are 2000 and that's just dandy for me.

Our bodies need this, believe me, our bodies need this for neuro health.

Best of luck

Melody

Well, 473. Now we have a good idea of what you need to do to start healing.

If I were you (and I'm sure many others will hop on board and back me up), get yourself on Methyl B-12. You can get it on many websites. I myself use Puritans Pride because they have all the buy 2 get 3 free deals. Can't beat it.

I initially started with iherb and bough my 5000 of the sublingual Methyl B-12 from them, but Puritans pride is much cheaper.

But do the research on line before you buy anything. If you think this might be helpful to you, go for it.

From what I have read there are no side effects. I started with 1000 and knew after one week that I needed to go on the 5000.

Been there ever since.

Best of luck

Melody

Nope!!! I'm looking right at the bottle.

Puritan's Pride METHYLCOBALIMIN B-12. 5000 mcg

So I just take ONE pill.

I take one every morning (on an empty stomach), before I go out for breakfast.

So far, so good.

just ordered it from puritans pride.... i take prilosec daily for heartburn and think maybe thats why my b-12 count is low...would i be correct in assuming that the sublingual method bypasses the stomach and won't affect the dose i take?
