What Is This?

Typically upon waking up, I get strange muscle action in my lower legs. It seems to be more on the sides of my calves than the calf itself. I don't know if it is muscle extension or muscle flexion, but it is not exactly like a cramp. It's causes me to walk stiff-legged for several moments after getting out of bed.

What is this and what is it called? I've had it for years, but last night it went on for hours without me even getting out of bed. Now, my lower legs are sore and, of course, I'm exhausted.

Thanks.

I get twitchy and achy in the early morning BEFORE I eat, and I always think it is a low blood sugar thing.

I remember once doing a fast for the doctor's...for blood work, and having her and me both watch my left calf twitch like mad.
That reading was 70, which is low. I used to have really low fasting blood glucose when my hypothyroid was not being treated yet.

You can also get odd feelings in the legs if something is wonkey with your back.

Thanks, mrsD!

This is more than a "twitchy" thing. This is a semi-incapacitating muscle and/or nerve thing. It has the uncontrollable inevitability of yawning and it sort of reminds me of when a dog gets up and stretches. It's always in the morning or after sleeping. I didn't think too much of it until I got my diagnosis.

Anyway, last night was a full-on battle. Really intolerable.

You think it might be a magnesium thing?
