More questions about Georgia
What is the state tax and do they have a hotle tax?
Has anyone heard anything about the Country Hearth Inn in Perry? They ahve queen size beds and a breakfast buffet! |
Georgia is confusing, because its individually based on the county you are in, and the service being provided. In one county, it can be 3% and in another only 1%.
This is what I found. Georgia has a 4% state sales tax rate. Groceries are exempt from the state sales tax, but still subject to tax by the local sales tax rate. Counties may impose local sales tax of 1%, 2%, or 3%, consisting of up to three 1% local-option sales taxes (out of a set of five) as permitted by Georgia law. These include a SPLOST, a homestead exemption (HOST), and one for public schools which can be put forth for a referendum by the school board instead of the county commission (in cooperation with its city councils). Also, the city of Atlanta imposes an additional 1% municipal-option sales tax (MOST), as allowed by special legislation of the Georgia General Assembly, solely for the purpose of fixing its water and sewerage systems. As of July 2008, total sales tax rates in Georgia are 3% for groceries and 7% for other items in the vast majority of its 159 counties. A few counties charge only 2% local tax (6% total on non-grocery items), and four partially exempt groceries from the local tax by charging 2% on food, and 3% (7% total) on other items. Fulton and DeKalb counties charge 1% for MARTA, and adjacent metro Atlanta counties may do so by referendum if they so choose. For the portions of Fulton and DeKalb within the city of Atlanta, the total is at 8% (4% on groceries) due to the MOST.[54] |

Also see http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Rev...y_Georgia.html Another one http://www.expedia.com/Perry-Hotels-...nn_Perry_Hotel This hotel has ONE star. That is a review of the Country Hearth Inn for Perry Georgia. it got a 1.9 rating. Most folks said it was dirty, the furniture was scared, abused, and smelled bad. It looks good on paper, in that its close to alot of things, and has free wireless internet, and close to applebees, and other food that is served fast at reasonable prices. I encourage you to look up that hotel on the internet. just plop the name into the google search bar "The country Hearth Inn or Perry Georgia" and see what pops up for you. I know you would be upset to book this room, only to show up and have to hold your nose, or burn your PJs after staying there. |
Triple post for me! wahoo!
The best rate I found for that hotel was $45 for one room, with two queen beds. If it were me, after seeing those reviews, I would move on. here is a site with ratings from quests that have stayed there, and prices. hope it helps. http://www.ihsadvantage.com/h/reserv...bAffiliateID=0 |
by the way, I hear that nov/2009 the Country Hearth inn went under new management and fixed several issues, but still remains a not nice place to stay. It has been rated as cleaner, and safer, but folks are still saying past the nov/2009 ratings, that they wouldnt not stay there again.
Holiday Inn has a HOT breakfast, and is much higher rated by folks that stayed there. http://www.ihsadvantage.com/h/hoteli...y=-1&orderBy=1 Holiday INn Hotel Perry Georgia. They have a hot breakfast in the am. Good ratings from folks that have stayed there. Roomsaver coupon for a walk in rate is $62 http://www.roomsaver.com/hotels/geor.../print-coupon/ Hotels.com if you want to reserve a room is $72 http://www.hotels.com/search.do?dest...mark=&hotelId= |
In NY we stayed at a place and moved the next day (PU!!) to a Holiday INN, Safer, cleaner and same price. No smell. Other place looked cuter, etc. until we get inside.

I think looking online and possibly through a travel agent is gonna be your best bet. Like Dej said, reading reviews from others who have been there is priceless.
I live in Georgia but in North Georgia and have never been to Perry, GA before. I hope ya'll have a great vacation! |
