Oxygen Concentrator Help MS?
I talked my Neuro into giving me an oxygen concentrator script (for me to buy cash) for my numb hands when I awake and also to boost my Ox levels since HBOT seems to be popular in other countries. Well the machine is $800 new at a bargin whereas I planned on buying used for $500 but they have 10,000hrs on them! Thoughts? I know it would surely help the amount of reps/exercise I can do AND sleep like a baby possibly enabling me to try/sleep using LDN again. Worst case scenerio I'd have my own Oxygen bar?

well, i don't know enuf about what you're talking about.
however, i've not heard anything about O2 improving MS. perhaps wearing a wrist splint during the nite would help your hands. it's worth a try and cheap. and, maybe a sleep study would be more useful to determine how you sleep and your O2 levels during the nite. |
Recap - i rented 5 LPM concentrator for 1 week. I slept better, had very slight decrease in morning spasms - very slight but i'll take any improvement. Had too many things to purchase then so the $ went elsewhere. By the holidays i'll get it. I liked it. Nose was less stuffy too at night using canular. Heats bedroom a bit too.

A yr later as well & owned one since winter. I've noticed the oxygen concentrator DOES slightly help my jolts/spasms while using it, slowly breathing in at pace it'll feed me so I only breath 90+ % oxygen. Heats the bedroom which isn't welcome during summer, but winters are warmer with it. I sleep a bit better as well. All positive effects end once you stop breathing it so this leads me to believe blood flow IS an issue. Increased flow would increase oxygen right?

My Mom put her concentrator in her big closet and it didn't heat up anything. She had tons of tubing.

The Concentrator probably helps you sleep without waking often. A lot like a CPAP machine, it gives you a constant, reliable Oxygen Supply. It is the frequent waking that is most damaging to your getting good rest. HBOT, Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is a completely different thing and can be very expensive. There are now smaller portable home use chambers, however they only provide a pressure increase of 4psi, the Concentrator would be of much greater aid for sleeping since the chamber O2 would be 4.14 psi O2 vs. 3.3 psi O2 in common air. I would vote for the Concentrator.
