Any thoughts or help. And a really neat nurse

On thursday morning it was so neat I got a call from a emergency room nurse.
She had a 14 year old child who was believe to be autistic. Its now not known
if he is honestly autistic or just very cognitively delayed. As much so as to
that he is a 14 year old, as to a 4 year old cognitive level.

He has become a danger to his younger siblings, and his mother too. And
has no other family that he can be sent too. So the nurse had been looking
it seems since Tuesday when he had shown up in ER for some reason. (I don't have the whole story).

Anyway she, the school personnel (THat I got involved) and some other personnel haven't been able to find him a place to go. But on Thursday
night they had to finally call in CPS, and she finally gave the real father
who has custody with her a call. He was to take him over night.

But has had him all weekend. But wont have a place to stay starting
tomorrow morning, so tomorrow mom is to go to CPS, to take medical
papers and see what is going to happen next. I'm hoping that CPS will
make him a CHINS. Which will allow a placement in a residential placement.

Not sure how this will effect mom and the family. But its the best thing
for this child.

Thanks to a email I sent, there has also been a advocate named by the
Children's hospital that he has been too also. The advocate is also has
a lawyer license. WHich will hopefully help.

Keep this group in your prayers. And me because this was kind of out
of my league.

Dear Donna,
You do good work.
He has an advocate now. That helps quite a bit.

I hope that the child gets placed by CPS Monday so that he gets settled.

Dear Donna

you never cease to amaze me.

i didn't post right away because thought i would have other thoughts... but that's about it... it just keeps coming back to awe. Great Job! and best wishes for the boy and his family, of course, and you in your continued efforts to help people.

Donna,

It doesn't sound like you were out of your league! You were able to provide this mother with resources in a very difficult situation. You can't solve the issue yourself, but you made a difference.

You will all be in my prayers.

Thanks, I need all the prayers, but more so my mom and the family.

I don't know what will happen. There is supposedly no way to CPS
or DFC take this child now.

THere is no funding.

Do we have Mitch to thank for that???!

Dmom3005 09-14-2010 02:33 PM

Alffe

Yes we do. I am in a position were I'm thinking about writing
a email to Mitch (our idiot Governor).

Who has messed up so many of our programs that were at least
helping people that needed it.

He is also most of the reason my son doesn't have his Waiver yet.

I did get a call, and the autism society of Indiana. Is going to
see what they can do.

Donna,
Also request help from your local congress people -- people who represent your district in Indianapolis.
You've probably already done this . . . just checking.

i am glad there are other good people out there, like yourself, who are going to work with you, and see about helping this child and his family. :heartthrob:

in spite of the "system" which is apparently broken or dysfunctional.

thank you, Donna.
