Q. about "nurse case manager"
 

Does anyone use/know someone who has a nurse case manager? I'm not sure what one does, exactly, yet received a letter from one offering services as part of my insurance "benefit plan."

Not sure either whether having one, or accepting the service, would be a positive or a negative: Is the person truly wanting to help me or help shave costs for the insurance company?

Trying to glean some insights from ppl. familiar with this stuff.

I had a nurse case manager assigned from my insurance company for awhile. I agreed, hoping she would be able to help me find some answers for my pain issues. In her defense, my pain is because of a WC issue, therefore not my primary insurance's 'problem' Her focus was on my blood sugars and symptoms of depression, not on my pain, so I did not find it helpful.

My instinct is to say, how could it hurt ? Might as well give it a try ........

Thank you. Prior to the "offer" of a having a "nurse case manager," I had also received a letter wherein my insurance referred to my health as "rare condition."

Maybe they're trying to work with me? or maybe for cost efficiency?

But, I am thinking now: It doesn't hurt to find out. Only way to really know at this point is call the nurse.

BTW: Mine isn't WC related. I wonder if insurance of mine would be offering if it had been. Same should be provided either way, I think.
