Tuna for our kitties??

How many here feed their kitties tuna?
I dont feed it to mine except for maybe once a month..Because of the mercury content.I really dont like to give them alot of fish of any kind!
I know they benefit from the omega 3..SO i do give them other seafood about once a week..Just not tuna.
I read another thread and it got me thinking..

I know alot may be wondering ,what about the other food i give them..{from another thread}If i were working,my kitties would be eating the more expensive stuff too..
I have argued with my spouse so many times over my kitties...
He wont budge when it comes to spending xtra $$.
If it were up to him..We would have found homes for the 2 babies i have.
He really didn't want us to keep them.
That's why i say i am lucky to even have them..
So back to the tuna/fish..LOL
I am really curious if others give it sparingly or not.

Hi Kelly

there are canned tuna's available that are certified to be much safer than the ones we buy in the supermarkets but at a much higher cost (around 3x more)

Vital Choice is one of those, and it is what we eat

but at those prices, I dont feed it to the kitties!

we only give tuna occasionally...

since ours like it so much.

I do know that OVERFEEDING tuna leads to a disease in cats called
yellow fat disease (which can be fatal).

I myself don't eat tuna anymore with all the warnings concerning mercury. They began with Albacore tuna, and are moving into light tuna...but most of the tuna for cats is red tuna. I eat salmon now...the kind in the pouches.
I don't know the pollution content for that.

Here is a really good article on it, which may put your mind at ease:
