The Cure??

Russian scientists have succeeded in removing all symptoms, only in animals so far. Russian scientists get good results at low cost. I have given scientific lectures in Moscow, and saw their methods at close quarters. See
http://en.rian.ru/science/20100917/160617865.html

"We have synthesized a compound which completely removes all symptoms of Parkinson's disease in animals," said Konstantin Volcho, a spokesman for city's Vorozhtsov Institute of Organic Chemistry.

"Tests on animals with PD demonstrated that the medicine returns all parameters back to normal and does not require additional medication. It has also been proven by long-term experiments," he said.

Ditto, do you know any more?

Ron, I posted about this last night but thought it came out of Siberia...it sounds very promising but the article is quite vague. Is it a shot, a pill, any idea?

Have a great time on your holiday, and thanks for the table. FYI, we have gained almost 30 pounds since being put in mirapex from the get-go. It is damn near impossible to lose the weight, despite major effort. Before PD, we were about ten pounds heavier than high school, and the weight would melt off with very little effort. Seems like it's either too much one way or the other, very hard to find the balance between.

I thought it interesting that the scientist quoted turns up in google as a chemist working with catalysts.

Lurking,

I am right there in the weight gain category, so far 20 lbs for me. What is frustrating for me is that I barely eat anything! I get the no appetite and weight gain side effect combo...go figure. If I have to deal with this weight, I at least want to gain it on my own terms by scarfing down pints of my favorite malted milk ball gelato or something. I am seriously considering tapering off Requip; the benefit is not so substantial anyway. The extra weight can't be healthy as it is around the middle and I never gain there.

I wonder how it changes our metabolism? I know that the drug leaves me feeling full after eating very little, but I can't figure out where the weight gain or loss comes in? So frustrating.

Hi Lurking,
One way to get an idea of what type of compound it is, is do a search on the author. You find they tend to publish papers all around the main topic, and you frequently get some good clues. I have tried this, but can only find different versions of the original announcement. I did find a statement that human trials will begin in 2 years.
Sorry I did not see your post on the topic, Siberia by the way is part of Russia i think. It was part of the Soviet Union.
I will be on holiday from today for a week. I got up today at 3-00am!!!

Have a good (and safe) vacation, Ron. Let's see if we can investigate this a little more. Nothing ha s ever claimed to remove ALL symptoms and have them not return. I do not see how they can make such a claim unless it's been around at least `5-20 years.
