23 extractions...new dentures..6 1/2 months pregnant and MISERABLE

If I had known the pain would be sooooo bad...I never would have done this. The sores in my mouth are horrible and I am being told by my dentist to leave the dentures in and put nothing on them. I want to bash my head into a wall just to feel a different kind of pain or knock myself out. Either one works. My husband is deployed and we have 3 kids right now including a 9 month old. I have no time to lay down and rest and let this heal...what in God's name was I thinking? I thought for sure I'd be happy to get rid of my bad teeth...now all I can do is cry wishing for them back. I got bottom implants as well...this is all just a complete disaster...and I really wish the hubby was here to help. But for now... I have no one. Any advice to keep the pain level lower so I can continue taking care of a 8 y.o, 4 y.o, and the baby? And keep myself healthy during the pregnancy? Please and thank you.

Oh Shawna, I'm so sorry that you're in pain.

Unfortunately I have no answers for you, and it looks like our resident dental expert isn't around at the moment, but hopefully either Bryanna or some-one else with experience with extractions, will be along soon to help you out.

Meanwhile I send you some gentle hugs and hope your pain eases soon.

Hi Shawna,

Did you have this dental work done while you were pregnant?

Did you have immediate implants done at the time of the extractions?

Do you have any remaining teeth of your own or are you wearing complete dentures on both the top and bottom?

Bryanna

Bryanna,
Yes I had the work done on Wednesday and I'm 6 1/2 months pregnant right now. Yes I had immediate implants done only on the bottom because I was was told that the bottoms are the hardest to keep in. No remaining teeth of my own...complete dentures and I feel stupid considering I am only 27 years old :(

Shawna,

This may sound like a silly question, but did your dentist know that you were pregnant and did your OB know you were doing this? In my 30 years of being a dental assistant, I have never seen or even heard of this type of dentistry being done on a pregnant woman. What is their recommendation for you to control the pain?

Bryanna

Dentures

Shawnna.so sorry you have had to deal with dentures at this young age.
I had lovely teeth, then got ill and started losing some,so one thing le:hug::hug:d to another. I am 56 now and feel like an old lady because of my dentures.I had more than 20 teeth removed at once and then had the dentures put on afterwards...I am still bleeding a bit,am a little sore but not in great pain.
Every time I try to eat anything they fall out,and am miserable also, they are also crooked.
I paid alot for them, and can't afford them,so financed them...I will be paying for them forever. I have a 16 year old hyper teenager, and he has seizures and am totally alone now,no friends who care and no family to speak of...
I know how it must be with your small children, and husband being deployed.
Just think of this,it will get better, most people go through at least of couple of months of adjustments.
The dentist assured me they would be beautiful after a while, and hope he is right,as I love to cook and eat,and now don't even have that to look forward to.
I am afraid no one will even care for me or love me,if I don't have my real teeth...and in a way it may sound superficial, but for a woman those things are important.
I will be praying for you and your family.
If anyone wants to become pals with me online,I would be very happy to chat.
Now that the holidays are coming,it is a very lonely time for my son and I,and I could use friends.
Thank you,
Mar

It get's better... I've had an upper denture for almost two years. The first couple of months are the hardest. Believe it or not in just a few months you'll be glad you made this decision. I'm new to this site but when I first had my extractions I went to a site called Dentures A New Smile. The people in the group are very supportive and helpful. It really helped me get through adjusting to dentures and answered a lot my questions.

Good Luck,
Hope
