LDN and Opioids

Hi,

I have read conflicting opinions on the concurrent use of LDN and Opioids. Some say no and other say separate intake by a few hours and all is well. I have done the latter and no problem. I was wondering what the consensus was here. I contacted skips and they recommend tramadol which is very similar to an opioid but not exactly the same. Thanks all.... alan

I have been able to take opioids and still take LDN, with, like you say, time inbetween...no problem.

I don't think it would work to have to take opioids on a regular basis and LDN. They would, most likely, just cancel each other out.

I don't know about that, but it is an interesting question. What do you use for pain on a regular basis?

I couldn't take ANY opioids when on LDN. It made me feel really sick...Which makes sense considering what LDN was originally prescribed for...But still *shudder*..

Hi Homer,
I take LDN, and when needed Tramadol (Ultram Brand name) for pain. It works for 4 hours, then you need another pill. No problems with LDN at all. I use Lidoderm pain patches too if needed. Not stopping LDN for these.

BUT, If I have a surgery, or a procedure planned, or dental work (crown, root canal), I skip LDN the day before the procedure.

Some docs say two days before. I want their pain med/anesthesia to work if I am to be biopsied, cut and stitched, or even for my colonoscopy. For that I stayed away one day from LDN and had no problem. I woke up and the rotor router test was over in a nano second.:)

Like Sally said, "Not on a daily basis." This is just our opinions. If you have other proof to share, that LDN still works for you with opioids taken regularly, then please tell us about it. Thanks.

I take opiods on a regular basis and my MD said I would have to come off it to take LDN. that lets say our body is like an electrical socket, and LDN is like a plug for a lamp. Opiods are like a plug for a lamp. If you take LDN it fills in that plug, so its no longer available for your lamp to plug in. Your lamp would have to keep circulating the room in search of a new plug, but would find LDN is occupying all the circuits, and then wash away. LDN in high doses is used to detox heroin addicts, and it does so by blocking the receptors that use those naracotic plugs. The narcs now cant get plugged in to have any effect.

When I spoke to skips they told me that I would have to come off the opiods to make use of LDN, and while they wouldnt stop me from trying, they had concern that my pain would not be well controlled without benefit of my normal meds.

I really wanted to try LDN, but I cant give up what keeps me walking. :(

Hi Homer.:) I don't have chronic pain, unless you count spasticity, but if my pain is severe, I take Aleve and for the usual PITAs, I take Bayer asprin.:)

I had to take Percocet/Darvoset, when I had tooth work, so I just skipped a day of LDN and went right back on it.

I hope you feel better soon.

I have no proof other than a link to a site I read, I do not know how legit it is but if you go through the Q&A questions some of them are about LDN and Opioid use.... my best, alan

The short time I tried LDN I took Marinol (thc) a few times and thc effect wasn't effected at all. THC's not opium though. I don't take opiates. Ibuprofen & asprin.

Thanks Alan that link was very interesting. Thanks for sharing that. I learned a few things myself on there.:)

I guess if you need to take strong pain medication you could wait a few hours between the LDN and the med. I know Skip mentioned codeine and a few others are not good.

I just don't like to take pain meds. I try to keep myself busy, doing things, even mental things, or reading. A busy mind can help deflect the thoughts of pain.

This way I don't concentrate on it. When I do that it intensifies. Like my blank---blank burning feet and legs, that feel like boiling water is on them and inside them or the MS hug which squeezes the heck out of me, or the darn old spasticity and cramps at night. Ouch!

Now when sleeping ,and it wakes me up, that is really crummy. Not much I can do. I try so hard to ignore these things. I do take Klonopin for spasms and tremors and the LDN I take does help, because it makes more feel good endorphins. Otherwise I don't think I could take all this pain and discomfort.

I am not really sensitive to pain. I can deal with the electric shocks, or bug bite feelings. No problem. Even the buzzing and ringing in the ears. Just all annoying stuff, IMO.
Sorry to ramble on Alan.
