Best Med for Paresthesia

I find this to be a particularly maddening symptom, especially the tingling and burning. I was wondering what the best med to take for this is according to everyones experiences. I have to start somewhere and any advice would be appreciated. thanks.... alan

I tried Neurontin for that, but it didn't work. LDN helps and I put up the rest. I have to rest a lot but it's manageable...sorta.

Neurontin helped me for about two years. However, I had to keep increasing the dosage. Eventually my neuro and I decided I would taper off as I did not want in increase the dosage anymore. Most of the time, mine is not too bad anymore. When the burning is really bothering me, I find that ice packs help a bit. I just try to ignore the tingling.

Others find that lyrica helps them. It did not work for me.

burning and tingling

I know this sounds stupid but.....the idea is to trick the brain into feeling something else. When my feet get to tingling so bad, I use Capcasin on them and it helps. The rub doesn't really do anything according to my doc....but the warming of it sends the brain is a new signal the brain then responds to the warming sensation.
Our burning and tingling are false signals from the brain. Sometimes my feet feel or fingers feel like they are in blocks of ice....but they are not really cold. Works for that to....Not all the time but its worth a try. If your condition is really bad...then by all means go for one of the drugs. I have not gotten that far yet.
P.S. WASH HANDS SUPER WELL AFTER USING CAPCASIN!!!!!!! YOU COULD BURN OTHER PARTS OF YOUR BODY ( LIKE EYES ETC.)

I don't think that is stupid, it makes sense. I will try it for my feet, hands and torso areas. Unfortunately one of the worst spots for me is my face and scalp, probably not good spots for the capcasin... :)

a TENS unit might help, but the head and face are probably not places where you want to be sticking electrodes for the TENS. (the information for my mom's TENS unit that I stole from her in desperation earlier this summer said something about that)

The TENS worked pretty good for the burning skin on my legs and in my ribs.

At physical therapy I took earlier this summer, they had a machine similar to a TENS that they used on my back for back pain that also had MS numbness going on in the same area too. My back was completely numb when they started it, and about 5 weeks later, I could finally feel it. They also had a (more powerful than my mom's) TENS unit they used when they were working on my back and my shoulder. That way they could use their big machine on one spot, and their fancy TENS on the other spot.

Try noxemma for the face. That will certainly confuse your brain.:D

Ah, Sal, I used to sneak into the bathroom when I was little and open the jar of Noxema, just to smell it...I forgot about that...aaahhhh. Thank goodness I haven't lost all my brain cells...

:yahoo: Too funny. I hated the smell of Noxema, but, I sure did like the way it cleaned my face and it was very soothing and healing for sunburn, too.
