How Do You Keep the Squirrels Out of Your Plant Containers?

The squirrels are going "nuts" around here suddenly, and I have deep divots in my plant containers...constantly sweeping up the soil.
Any hints or suggestions on how to stop the critters?

Chipmunks do this too. I bought a huge container of Cayenne pepper (the red stuff) at Sam's club. I sprinkle it around where I plant bulbs, and in my planters, and they get one sniff and are GONE.

In spring I have more problems with the little devils digging up my new plantings, than in fall. But this year is a bumper crop of acorns and there is new damage this week.

You don't need much, and be careful not to sprinkle it too aggressively or it will GET YOU too. (I use a spoon and do not sprinkle out of the container, for that reason).

After heavy rains, you may need to do it again, but once they learn sometimes this lesson can last a long time! ;)

Keeping squirrels out of Plant containers

I have used "bitter apple". It is called that and it won't hurt animals. I orginally got it for my dogs...then I realized it worked with chipmunks, cats and squirrels.

It is called that and it doesn't hurt them. Good Luck you guys.....
