All I see now, when I watch tv, is violence, porn, sexual inuendos, etc. etc. Last night I was watching a tape of Criminal Minds. Oh My God, TV has changed so much. They actually show you the crimes, IN DETAIL. They don't leave anything to the imagination. That's why I don't watch CSI. Too much detail. I don't mind a crime drama, but give me a break. We need TO LAUGH!! To throw our heads back and get a good belly laugh. Oh, last night on Public TV, there was a documentary titled "New York Street Games" They had all the actors describing the games that they used to play in the street when they grew up in NYC. My husband and I were sitting at the tv shouting "I remember doing, this, I remember doing that one'. The game were Potsy (aka Hopscotch), Red Rover Red Rover, Tag, you're it, Stick Ball, Stoop Ball, Ringaleevio, oh my god, the memories. And what really made me think was when one of the directors of this documentary said "All those years ago, all the kids played in the street, the grandmothers were leaning out of the windows on pillows and everybody's grandma and any other adult, were watching over you. Everybody had your back. You made friends, you had fights, but you knew how to solve them. Kids had contests, they played ball, they RESPECTED the grown-ups. One actor said "god forbid we cursed and we saw an adult, even if we didn't know the adult, we said "oh I am so sorry, please don't tell my mother. And the best was that if you screwed up, some adult on the corner would give you a slap on your head and then they told your mother and when you got home, she really gave you a swift kick. Now I'm not advocating violence, but give me a break, those times, well, we didn't have ANYTHING like we do now, with the drugs and the disrespect, etc. One of the actors said "These days we have voluntary isolation with the video games. No one goes out and plays anymore. He was right. They had little clips of all the playgrounds now. They are empty. Everyone was inside playing Playstation, Wii, etc. Rarely do kids get sent out to get fresh air. It's just too dangerous. How sad. Sorry to take away the forum about laughter. But until someone unplugs these video games and gets the kids outside playing StickBall and Red Light Green Light one two three, we are going to have a continually obese driven society. Food, plus no activity leads to obesity, and diabetes. BIG TIME. That's the future. I wish someone would pull the electricity plug for one month and all the kids would have to go outside and PLAY!!!
