When In Doubt??
Right now I'm waiting for neuro-psych exam results back. I'm very flustered, upset, concerned and frustrated. I've learned to take every hour by hour instead of day by day. That is how horrible I have felt lately. Just about to give up on doctors and believing in them anymore. Don't even know where to turn to for help or which type will listen/view my file at this point.
One thing stated in Mayo Clinics written form with the paperwork you had to fill out and send back: A professional will review/etc. your records/x-rays/etc. within the next 72 hours. If I am right it appeared that they said the patient would hear back a day/two later to find out if they actually would be accepted into their program/get an appointment date. Found out that Mayo Clinic has had my paperwork for well over a week. Called them and they said it would take a lot longer and when I asked why they refused to give me any further information. :( The receptionist told me the best bet would be December to figure an appt date. Question: Have any of you been sent to a dizzy clinic or other specialist and got dx'd in that way? What if I have similar MS symptoms and they end up telling me it is all in my head- like all previous doctors? Trust me- no way can it be in my head. I can barely walk up/down stairs/drive. Help! |
I'm so sorry for your frustration and I understand. That is the suckyith part of this disease....the unsureness, the waiting, the seemingly, discompassionate Medical community etc....
We have all been through this, to one degree or another, so we do understand. Since there is little you can do to rush them, Take a deep breath and get on with your daily life, as best as you can. See your PCP to help you manage and medicate your symptoms. Keep as much stress at a distance as you are able and Try to enjoy life, as much as possible......while you wait.:hug: |
Coffeegirl we hear you. I am sorry to say most of us went through this process. It takes time. Mayo is strict. I have heard that.
Some Neuro's there don't believe in treating MS even after a DX is given, that is if you are having very little trouble, like benign symptoms, and able to work, walk, etc. They will treat your pain and symptoms, but they don't put you on DMD's at the beginning. Some clinics start you right after a dx. All drs, hospitals and clinics are different. They have their own criteria that they follow. Mayo is one of the best hospital/clinics but maintain to be unique. It took me three years to get a dx in NYC, and I had symptoms that a Neuro could see. They have to test everything unless you present with "Classic MS symptoms." Some people do, most don't. Try to relax and forget about it for now. You can't rush them that's for sure. :) Many people go to a few places before they get one that takes them seriously, and still you have to wait in those places too. |
MS is one of those diseases that sometimes gets diagnosed very s l o w l y.
It might feel like an emergency to you and the rest of us whenever we have a new symptom, but to the doctors and neuros...not so much sometimes. They should still be treating your symptoms even if they havent diagnosed you tho. You mentioned having vertigo in another post. Ask them if there's something you can take for that if they havent already Rx-ed you something. |
