H.R. 1362 Update: Next Step is a Vote in the House of Representatives
Great news! Today, September 23, the full House Energy & Commerce Committee unanimously passed by voice vote H.R. 1362, the National Neurological Diseases Surveillance System Act [H.R. 1362.] The legislation will establish a national data surveillance system that will track and collect data on the epidemiology, incidence, prevalence, and other factors of neurological diseases, including Parkinson’s and multiple sclerosis. Learn more about the bill.

H.R. 1362 will now move to the House floor for a vote as soon as next week, so your Representative needs to hear from you. Make sure your Member knows that the Parkinson’s community strongly supports this important legislation.

Please continue to voice your support! Take action today by e-mailing your Representative in support of H.R. 1362.

By clicking "take action," you may choose to send a letter that you print yourself OR you can send any email. Be sure to add your personal story about PD to the message. After the second paragraph is a good place to do this.

You mean these diseases weren't part of surveillance before now? I've read the bill but it's not clear to me what the situation was like prior to its proposal. Can anyone clarify please?

When I was diagnosed three years ago, I was appalled to learn that the CDC has not collected demographic or environmental information or anything really related to PD and many other neurological disorders. All these years, data could have been collected, analyzed, cross referenced and we'd be that much closer to possibly identifying an environmental culprit or culprits. Kinda makes you wonder why this has been ignored for so long? They might actually pinpoint an environmental trigger or two and there would be some unhappy corporations.

All I can say is it is loooong overdue.
