ACHr results affected by medication?
 

Does anyone know if taking mestinon and prednisone when the MG antibody panel is drawn would adversely affect the results? I would think that the results could be falsely negative, but would like to hear what others think?

Your post made me laugh out loud. Doctors seem so surprised when they figure out we have a disease and then are even more surprised when the drugs meant to make the signs and test results of MG "disappear" actually do that.

Yeah, that situation can create a "false negative." What the neuro who diagnosed me said is that there can be people with MG who are clinically really weak who test negative on both a SFEMG and antibodies and some who are not obviously weak who test highly positive.

Immunosuppressants suppress the immune system that makes antibodies. Antibiotics get rid of signs of an infection. Ibuprofen gets rid of signs of inflammation. Good grief, is this basic knowledge so hard for some doctors to grasp? ;)

I'm glad that I was able to provide a laugh for you today. :icon_lol: I've read that adults, on average, laugh less than 20 times/day. Yet, isn't laughter considered the best medicine? Or, at least, high on the list. :)

I doubt the decision to not recheck AChR will have a deleterious effect on my treatment plan. It's just been a wild and crazy ride, but fortunately followed by a physician who thinks "out of the box."
