JK ROWLING- Harry Potter Author

JK Rowling, who donated a very large sum of money for a clinic for MS in Scotland, will be on Oprah, on October 1, 2010.

I heard she resigned from the Scotland MSS. I wonder what they will talk about. Hmm

Her Mum died from MS complications.

wow! really? she gave a ton of money, and then ...walked away??

I wonder if they refused to use her money the way she specified. Maybe they are going to use if for salaries and admin costs instead of direct patient care.

I know NONE of that for sure, but she has been a strong advocate for the MSs and it would take a lot to make her walk away.

After checking out the London website, I found the date for this article was April 2009. She had left the Society because of a disagreement with their organization, policies, etc. The donation she made was this summer to a research hospital. Her mother was only 45 when she passed. I didn't care for the way the newspaper referred to MS as a "wasting disease". Since being in this lousy w/c, I'm certainly NOT wasting!!! lol Have to remember to watch Oprah today -- that's usually about when I'm getting up since it's my "bedtime" now! :)

I love how they called MS the "wasting disease"

I also learned that scotland has more cases of MS than any other country. They say its all the grey skies, and lack of sun.

Boo Oprah, she just said her mother "Died from Multiple Sclerosis", not from complications of it, but from it. Foul Oprah, foul.

I was a little disappointed at the one hour show. It didn't give the impact that I hoped it would have. She is a lovely and caring woman, JK, but didn't dare touch on the subjects of the MSS or her Mum. She is just mad that Scotland did not provide any treatments for MS. Let people die.

With her money, she could of had her Mum brought to the US and had the best care, but she passed while she was just starting to write her first book, by hand, until she got a typewriter. Her Mum never knew she was writing a book for kids.

So both women, JK and Oprah, started off well below the poverty level, and made a name for themselves. I guess that was more the theme.

She said because her mom died Harry Potter turned out to be what it was. Its all about love, and chasing it, and the love for a lost parent. I too was disappointed that she didnt speak more on what happened, but was pleased with all that she did say. Facinating that the dementors came out of her own depression.
