SSDI Benefits
 
I thought I would post this again as there are newbies receiving SSDI. In my state Indiana if you are disabled you get a tax break on your property taxes. I have also heard that you can be eligible for a free cell phone in some states. Not sure if this is true. Maybe some of you know more benefits out there. Saving every penny in these times is beneficial. If so please add to these.

Yes it's true. I've had mine going on 2 years now. The minutes are rolled over. I really have no use for a cell phone so my hours have really accumulated. I've only used it once (called AAA).
The "government" free cell phone offer is called Safelink.

Some states offer the following freebies and/or discounts for the disabled:
Public transportation - discount or free. Just show your Medicare card.
Prescriptions - discount or free. Most RX companies have a "Patient Assistance Program" or you can just apply to Needy Meds. Most if not all states have their own discount plan for the disabled.
Medicare has a FREE prescription program for those who qualify. Go to Medicare's website & search for "Find Benefits Programs" or do a Google search.
ALWAYS ASK YOUR DOCTOR FOR FREE SAMPLES of the meds you are taking. Most if not all will gladly supply you w/enough to last you till your next appointment. :D
CVS & Walgreens - discount on prescriptions - $5-$7. You must request & apply for their discount programs.
Transportation to doctor appointments & shopping centers - free
Cell phones - free as previously mentioned
Verizon phone service - discount - NOT ADVERTISED. YOU NEED TO CALL UPPER MANAGEMENT & REQUEST THIS SERVICE.
Comcast phone, internet, TV - discount - same as above.
AT&T - discount - same as above.
COX - discount - same as above.
Food stamps - SSDI disabled are under a different criteria than the non-disabled. At least in New Jersey. Unknown about other states.
Food Banks - FREE FREE FREE!!!!!


Call your local county office & ASK what is available discounted and/or free for the disabled/seniors in your STATE & COUNTY.

Most states combine seniors w/the disabled. When calling for freebies & discount ALWAYS ask what is available for the senior/disabled. :D
