Fava Juice

Hi all,

I ordered some fava juice from International Gourmet for my Dad. He was diagnosed last year and his main symptom is tremor. The neurologist hasnt put him on medication yet. I have him taking coq10, turmeric, alpha lipoic acid, multivitamin, omega..

I was wondering how much of a dosage he should take a day. When I spoke to the gentleman at International Gourmet, he said that you have to experiment and see what works.

I was wondering what you guys would suggest.

Thanks,

Sharmila

I have been taking it 3 times a day 1 teaspoon per dose. I have not cut my regular meds down. It does seem to help and I've noticed no adverse effect. I did eat too many fava beans one day and experienced muscle cramps, so I would think you'd want to go slow and see what works for him. Also, I got a notice from International Gourmet that it's coming to the end of the season for the juice to be available. So, if it works for you, you'd better put up a supply.

didn't work for us

Hello,
I hope it works for you, it did not work for us. Part of that may have been that it seemed spoiled when we got it, we live in Texas and in the summer those little ice packs do nothing to keep things cold, so they spoil VERY fast. So I think if it were fresh, it may have made a difference.

We did grow some of the beans this past spring and a couple of times I cooked them and we ate them, had a very tranquil and relaxed feeling. But as the season wore on, the beans changed in the heat and we didn't get that relaxed feeling when we ate them...plus, they are beans, and one can only eat so many beans without getting a stomach ache! That's why the juice may be particularly helpful, just be sure you get it as fresh as possible!

That's right , you can only eat so many beans...that's where juicing comes in great. We added alittle ground flax to the juice and dropped it ini dime -sized blobs on unbleached parchment and placed in the dehydrator to dry." Vwa-la " You have produced BEAN CHIPS.... Dried l-dopa COOL, portable. (slightly time consuming, but stable. Practically perfect if you grow your own beans!)

Hi there,

How big is the bottle you received. I ordered one for my Dad ( I havent seen it) and he is says it is quite small ( less that a liter). How many bottles do you buy at a time?

Thanks,

Sharmila

The bottle is not very big but seems to last me about a month. I only buy one at a time and presently have wandered off in search of other possibilities. I'm hoping to build a little greenhouse and try growing some favas myself.

Go for it. The main problem with favas is aphids. A neighbor has offered us a huge greenhouse if we can move it....that may be our next farm project! God Bless!
