Loss of taste/smell

Has anyone lost some of their taste/smell senses? I have to a variable degree. Not sure what is going on. It is really weird.

My sense of taste is still there, I think, though I seem to like more spice in foods than I used to.

My nose doesn't detect odors that other people notice--smoke, for instance. This could be embarrassing and even dangerous.

But I don't know what to do about it. I don't think there's much that can be done.

I don't think MS caused this for me. I think it was years and years of bad sinus infections that impaired my sense of smell. Whatever it was, it seems to be here to stay.:(

My taste buds have changed. Stuff (vinegar on salads) makes me wince now. I must go creamy.

I'm able to eat food with more zest/spice to them now or sour things that used to make me cringe. Salt- is hard to detect. Odd. Smell is off in many ways. Some perfumes I can't smell/some I can, can't smell certain odors that others can, etc.

This really is strange. Wonder why we all are having this go on? I have heard this can be a symptom of MS, Parkinson's and Alzheimers. Right now I'm waiting to get dx'd. Wonder what on earth they will find. Hope they don't come back and tell me it is all in my head.

CG,
My smell has diminished, I use to have a nose of a hound dog. Use to go outside and say, I can smell someone burning all the time. Taste, well, everythings seems to taste the same anymore.

I betcha a gal could take off a pound or two with no taste or smell. Hummmmm. :)

Ironically- I've lost 8 pounds and couldn't figure out why... Hmm.. It is due to food tasting horrid and not being able to swallow lots of it.

I had Bell's palsy a few years ago but when asked by my neuro if i'd lost my taste and smell during the bell's, I reliased I had not. Hence it could not have been proper Bell's (as loss of senses goes with it).
Nerve damage through mechanical injury (swelling etc) causes damage to senses apparently.
