I had trouble swallowing because my top ribs were being pulled up by severely spasmed neck muscles - after the spasms were resolved {chiropractor/NIMMO} the top rib stayed stuck up like that and an advanced PT, and then my chiro too, were able to get them to drop back down { with a firm steady gentle pressure}.

They raised up a few times soon after but chiro took care of it and now they stay down unless I really overdo with extreme heavy lifting or heavy projects.

When they were stuck up it felt like a tight turtle neck sweater was on all the time. swallowing troubles & felt like something in my throat too.

So if that sounds like what you are having then ask for a few sessions of PT or see a really good chiro.
Possibly a friend can watch some videos on line on how to do it and try it first, is is basically a steady pressure downward on the shoulder/neck

I am so sorry.

I've had TOS and RSD for 8 years. For some of that time I've had difficulty with swallowing. I did have the brachial plexus surgery by Dr. Annest in Denver. It helped.

But what I have learned is that this illness is cyclical and picks different areas to "pick on". For instance, for 3 years it was my arms so bad. Later, it was my chest and neck. Now it's my shoulder and feet that have the highest pain. (I have always had pain to one degree or other.)

Keep searching for a good pain doctor that can help you find the strongest pain meds YOU need for YOUR condition. We are all different in some ways.

God bless you.

i have this as well . started off with wrist and elbow and follows like your story. i tried anat baniel method and feldenkrais and it helps. i am not close to perfect but it seem to have more good days than before.

another thing i learned is that the tongue can be tight in throat and effects neck chest and swallowing. this method also helps with that.

you are the first one i found that have the shoulder/ feet connection of pain. its so real and sux. some day i cant walk. the gravity and friction from floor hurts way too much.

half of my face is also doesnt feel the same. odd..... radiating pain.. oh well....

have you tried ' feldenkrais" method? or anat baniel method?

i have a problem with tight tongue and jaw and radiating pain around the area. it really helps. and once its loosen up , it also helps with neck/ chest to be a bit freer.

they have those recording on sale on their web site to practice on jaw/ tongue. best to see some practitioner for new beginners.

I've had the swallowing problem for a long time. It goes and comes, but it hangs around a lot more now than it used to. Can't get rid of it. Nobody seems to know why it is happening or how to fix it.
