Non-Length Sfn/ Symptoms Migrating?
 

For those of you with full body abnormal sensations/pain, etc.....

Do your symptoms migrate around your body or do they hit the entire body all at once.

Mine migrate with a second or so inbetween........jumping from head to toe.

Wondered if this meant anything one way or another?

Does NLD SFN usually progress to Large Fiber Sensory or Motor if idiopathic in nature?

No, they don't turn to large fiber neuropathy in general.

Small doesn't mean insignificant. Small fibers are crucial to autonomic function and sensory function.

Also, SFN is unpredictable in its progression....it can progress fast, or slow, or not at all.

As the supersmart people at this forum have pointed out, "idiopathic" simply means that there's a cause for the neuropathy - it just isn't found.

My NLD SFN burning (sort of) has become pretty much confined to the face, scalp, upper ears with dorsal spine tingly-type sensations and some minor tingling in the hands and feet. Face-flushing can be a component of NLD SFN AND Sjogren's and it feels like burning. Sometimes have a seconds-long burning in a small spot usually on a lower leg. Used to get sharp, stabbing quick pains almost anyplace, but don't have them anymore.

I like the way you described SFN here Cyclelops. Direct and to the point... It really describes it all in a nutshell. And Sheltiemom, good point about "idiopathic". Most of us are in this place?!

I am very much aware the sfn is not insignificant. I burn, prickle, have abnormal sensations around the clock in every area of body, every minute of the day, and that is with 1200 mg. Gabapentin/60mg. Cymbalta. It's just that weakness (motor involvement) would be an awful addition to all this and the possibility scares me.

I am trying to divert my attention from these thoughts, but it so hard when we are physically "reminded" every second (literally)!
