does anyone take prednisone to reduce swelling?

I have internal RSD and about 70lkbs of swelling on the right side of my abdomen. When this first started a doctor thought i was having an allergic reaction to injections i had after gallbladder surgery. So it worked to take off 30lbs of swelling when it first happened...but then it stopped working and the swelling is kept at 70lbs now. if i go off the prednisone, i swell more. none of this makes sense because usually prednisone buts weight on people.

Does anyone take prednisone for swelling? I also take lasix now and then but it doesnt really work because im not swollen anywhere except my abdomen.

Just recently i had an injury on my forearm. Now its in pain and swelling...it wont go down and its hot to th touch and it feels a little burning on the outside..is it RSD ? I havent seen it on any limbs so im not sure what to think? It sure looks weird and feels real strange!

Thank you kindly
Lori

Hi Lori,

I take 20mg per day of Prednisone and have for the last 5 or 6 months. However, it was initially prescribed to me for discoid lupus but with my RSD flaring up so badly lately, I've been told to take that and another 10mg at night if it's bad.

I also take Aleve supplemented with Robitussin which I have hear is supposed to increase it's effectiveness somehow . I'm also on Toradol, Ativan, Durogesic and a ton of other meds.

Hi Dawn

Im sorry you are going through all of this! I take 30mgr and im trying to wean myself off to see if the swelling wont increase. im scared because once the swelling goes up it never comes off of me. Prednisone for long term use wrecks your body. Make sure you are taking strong vitamins...i take mega packs with lots of calcium to ward off bone problems and more.

Hugs to you!! gentle ones :)
Lori
