Help with an ingredient
Hi,
Does anyone know what Phenylketonurics is? It's in these diet shakes and I wonder if they have any effects. Thanks |
i did some checking. i'm coming up with artificial sweetners.
here is one link http://www.associatedcontent.com/art...etonurics.html |
the word
Phenylketonuric is not an ingredient.
This is the name given to people born with an enyzme error that prevents them from metabolizing phenylalanine in food. This is an amino acid in proteins. Also a precursor for epinephrine synthesis. The condition is called phenylketonuria. Since aspartame contains aspartic acid and phenylalanine it is not safe for consumption by phenylketonuric patients. Babies in this country are routinely tested for this genetic defect in the hospital when they are born. So they are identified early. If not caught then, they develop mental retardation and brain damage fairly quickly. |
thank you mrsd. i was coming up with that too, but since shelley said it was listed in her diet shakes...i gave the link to the other info.
