Help with an ingredient

Hi,

Does anyone know what Phenylketonurics is? It's in these diet shakes and I wonder if they have any effects.

Thanks

the word

Phenylketonuric is not an ingredient.

This is the name given to people born with an enyzme error that prevents
them from metabolizing phenylalanine in food. This is an amino acid in proteins.
Also a precursor for epinephrine synthesis. The condition is called phenylketonuria.

Since aspartame contains aspartic acid and phenylalanine it is not safe
for consumption by phenylketonuric patients.

Babies in this country are routinely tested for this genetic defect in the hospital when they are born. So they are identified early. If not caught then, they
develop mental retardation and brain damage fairly quickly.

Thank you both. When I googled it it came up with aspartame but I thought maybe there was something more.

Mrs D thank you for the explanation, you are so super smart :Clever:

Hope you both have a great day
