Calling MrsD

Hi,

Scoped the Parkinson's forum this P. M. because my daughter's dad has it. Whenever I notice like this, I pass it on to her so she can pass it on to him. Read the topic there about coconut oil supporting the mitochondria, something about glucose whatever, etc., and saw your post. There were some very definite pros and cons posted about it.

What do you think the bottom like is at this juncture regarding coconut oil as a possible silverplated bullet (evidently silver yet, if ever) for autoimmune in general, or just maybe specifically for certain ones such as Parkinson's, lupus?

You must have a psychic connection to me! LOL

I am going to further post on that link that reverett gave on fatty acids.

When I put it up later today, you'll see my opinion.

I think trying it in moderation, cannot harm you. But I also think that avoiding transfats, will help. (this is easier now than 10 yrs ago when I started with my suggestions...back then I was flamed mightily for daring to suggest that transfats were toxic. Now we know they are, and food companies have removed them for the most part, and even some countries (Denmark) and cities...NY City, etc).

If you take Flax oil and fish oil, and avoid bad fats like transfats, you are doing well. You can add some coconut oil if you choose in your cooking..as some doctors are endorsing this. But don't do that ONLY... and ignore the essential fats like Flax and fish oil.

Honestly don't know how I ended up at the Parkinson's forum exactly when I did.

Something weird: Say somebody like a celebrity dies or somebody well-known, I'll think about that person a few days before it happens. Have no idea why he/she would ever cross my mind. Or somebody I went to school with that I haven't thought about in decades. Shortly afterwards, I'll hear that they passed away. Strange.

No, would not stop the fish oil, avoidance of transfats, etc. Don't know how much OIL total I can stuff into myself. But hey, what's a little more. Also do olive oil. No wonder my joints don't hurt or creak - yet.

I'll be eager to read what you post about the coconut variety when you're ready.

Thanks,:)

Sheltiemom

The Parkinson's forum is a very good resource for many of us who don't have PD "yet"...

There are some very informed and knowledgeable posters there, and I read it regularly for that reason.

So do check them out. Olsen, often posts about the toxicity of statins, for example. But many others there post about many neurotoxic things, that may apply to many others here on NeuroTalk!

I respect them greatly.

I have visited the PD forum too, I was convinced at one time that I had Parkinsons. Those patients are some of the most informed and intelligent people I have ever met, they are also courageous soldiers of a disease, that is extremely challenging, to say the least.
