EEK! Almost got Mugged

What a crazy week this has been. Got everything in order today (packing etc).

Went to walk Buddy around block area and this white car full of kids sped off main road and pulled into church parking lot where I was walking the dog. The car idled and then began to creep towards us.

AAUUGH! So I began to walk really fast in another direction away from them and they just sat there watching me and of course my imagination was running vividly so then I began to try to run and I must have looked so funny they drove off.

Really scary.

We had a shooting in a park during broad daylight recently.

This used to be a very safe town.

No more.

Oh my, TRESA, how scarry. Were just not safe anywhere anymore. Don't walk the dog alone anymore, unless you have a mean police dog with you.

I'm glad they sped off.

I don't mean to laugh, but I'm picturing you running in a haphazzard MS manner..:D:D

I bet you felt better having Buddy with you!

I dont take walks anymore because I dont have my big brave protector anymore. Never felt scared (much) when TinyMonsters was with me. 100+ pounds of snarling, drooling fur was always nice to have around. (could have done without his drool tho)

I know what you mean about your town having used to be safe. My town seems to be falling into anarchy.

13yr old boy was shot in the face in his own house last night. No apparent reason why. Someone walked into his house, killed the kid and then left. No robbery. Why would someone kill a 13yr old like that? I know Omaha isnt the only formerly "safe" city to be having problems like this. It's happening all over.

Scary!

 did you remember the license plate? How scary!

When I go out for walks I take very little with me. I still dont want to be scared into peeing my pants while I am out there tho.

I am glad you are home safe.

I hope you take a cell phone with you when you go out. That way you can at least dial 911 even if you have to put the phone back in your pocket to get away. If you've got one with a camera that's even better. I don't have a camera on mine (mine's the Safelink so it's just very basic) but if you do you can snap a pic of a car or a person.

I'm glad you're okay.

Thank you for such loving concern....I told all the folks here at my complex. Told them if they ever see "Buddy" without me ( as I will let him off leash to run away...then to call police and find me.

Another told me to carry cell phone ...so I plugged mine in to recharge and went and got minutes for it today.

Also got a VERY loud Screamer device to wear on wrist.

Iy was really very scary and Im just thankful we got away.

Thanks for all the huggies...:o.....:grouphug:

I'm glad you're okay. It's just not like it used to be out in the world anymore. :( It's a shame but we have to have our guard up at all times.

Well, guns aren't as 'accepted' for personal security reasons where I live, nor do I feel I need to walk with one, but our city too is getting rougher. I've been in 1 situation (broad daylight mind you) where the man tried to get me to go with him, grabbed my wrist, bruised me, but I otherwise kept my cool and got out safe, keeping my wits about me.

Now when I go out walking, I be sure to 1. dress warm 2. dress like a bum as not to attract attention (goes with the dressing warm) 3. walk well-patrolled, lit and traveled areas.

I absolutely LOATHE parking lots as a pedestrian. I avoid them like the plague. If I have to walk further to avoid, so be it. Just like my father's theory of left turns and driving: "Laura, if it takes you 5 minutes to go around the block to make a right instead of a left turn, you're much safer in the end". I feel the same about private areas like parking lots. I'll take the city-owned sidewalk and painted cross walks etc, if something occurs there the city answers, not the individual that owns the property.

Keys on a key-ring can wicked hurt when thrust into the correct area. Wearing good footwear is also not a bad idea. Ladies, steel toe boots aren't out of the question. You know where you can plant that toe if you're attacked. ;)
