Do NSAIDS work
I've been on a variety of NSAIDS for a very long time, changing over as each one was found to be harmful.
My family has at last convinced me to get off it, as the health risks are too great to ignore. I was taking Celebrex, which has known heart problems. I've been off Celebrex for 6 days now, and have found no ill effects. In fact, I think I feel better! It's early days, I know, but I always thought these things were quite fast acting, so you'd think they would be out of the body quite fast. Has anyone found a definite benefit from NSAIDS? |
I have severe spinal problems, and I have found NO benefit from them. They have never done a thing for me. I've tried just about every kind, and nothing works. The only thing that DOES work is narcotic pain meds, which I'm sick to death of taking. LOL They don't make me goofy - they make me constipated. I'm sure you wanted to hear that.
Perhaps it depends on what you're taking the Nsaids for. But they sure don't work for me. Best of luck and God bless. Hugs, Lee :D |

I had massages for over a year, and while they gave good relief the pain always returned, so obviously it was treating the symptoms only. Why were my muscles always so tight and knotted? Then, my daughter suggested magnesium oil, known to help with muscle problems. BINGO. Within a week, the benefit was obvious. I no longer need regular massage, and my 25y chronic headaches have gone. So simple yet so effective. As well, and you will like this, the magnesium oil loosens the bowels, so I find it a good balance for the opioids that I take. Incidentally, with the magnesium my pain medication is down by about 50%, and any pain is much milder. |
I use Aleve Liquigels occasionally for my arthritis pain.
Aleve in the states is naproxen sodium 200mg. Naproxen has been shown to be the least dangerous NSAID for the heart attack risks. I found the liquigel formulation to be very fast acting and allows me to keep my dose low. I can get away with one a day most times.(this compared to 800mg ibuprofen which I used before) The liquigel formulation seems to be more efficient in absorption for some reason. It is a huge improvement I think, over tablets. The NSAIDs create the heart problems by blocking Cox-2 cytokines. The more potent they are doing this the bigger the tradeoff in safety. One of the Cox-2 cytokines is prostacyclin, made in the kidney, and this one dilates blood vessels. So suppressing it too much can lead to heart attacks. The drug companies KNOW this (KNEW this) all along because anyone with chemical knowledge of cytokine chemistry...knows this. I knew this 10 yrs ago, and I think it is reprehensible for Big Pharma to keep it a secret like they did with Vioxx and Bextra. You can more naturally reduce inflammation by balancing your Omega-3 and 6 intakes, and taking some fish oil. I try to keep my NSAIDs very low also for another reason. High long term use, suppresses Cox-2 in the gut, allowing for more leaky gut issues since Cox-2 cytokines block absorption of unwanted peptides and other large molecules in the intestine. The Cox-2 cytokines in the joints are there to stimulate healing and if blocked too much and too long lead to further deterioration. Some papers say 6wks should be the cut off for continuous high dose NSAIDs. |
Thanks MrsD.
The more you learn about the pharma business, the less you want any part of it. I will have a look at this in my next computer session-already over my limit! I take 6 fish oil capsules daily now. About all I can stand. |
I get amazing results from Voltaren. No GI issues, no mental impairment, and lots of pain relief.
