electric shock sensation in bones
 

My grandaughter, age 7, is complaining of getting electrical shocks in her bones at chest sternum area and lower ribs.

She says they even happen on her leg shins and arms. She clearly points to the areas where she gets them.

Afterwards she feels as if it is raining on her head but there's no rain.

Or She feels like she is falling down a big black hole where whe is about to die.

At times she feels just generally sick.

Teacher has waved her hand in front of her face but she cant move her head and is awake and knows the teacher is wanting to get her attention.

The electrical shocks will wake her up in the middle of the night. So they happen mostly at night and in early morn (stress probably of getting ready for school)

DOes this sound like seizures or more like panic attacks. Im thinking seizure as they happen mostly when she is sleeping.

Any ideas?

If this were my grand daughter, I don't think I would try to guess. No matter what it is, from stress, to something physical, I would want her to be seen by her doctor. Kids don't lie as a rule, and something is really waking her up at night. That alone wouldn't be good for her. Tell your doctor all of it, and keep a journal of symptoms of when and where they occur. You will have something to show the doctor, so he can try to figure it out. Good luck to your family. ginnie:hug:

From what you are discribing this sounds like your grandaugther may be having a posssible absence (petit mal) and aura seizure. Ask your grandaughter if she remembers anything after she has these feelings. Often an aura seizure which is also known as a simple partial seizure will lead into a absence seizure. Take note if your grandaughter had a daydream or staring look on her face after she gets the feeling in her body. Often when I have an aura seizure I will begin to see colors in my eyes flashing back and forth and get a nervous feeling in my stomach and sometimes this will lead into a absence seizure where I just stare for a few seconds but I am confused and tired after the seizure is over.
Stress and lack of sleep are the 2 main things that can trigger seizures. My advice to you is to have your grandaughter family Dr. refer her to see an Epileptologist (Dr. specializing in epilepsy) and be sure to go to a Epilepsy Center which are usually at University Hospitals. These Drs.can run a e.e.g. and other tests to find out what's going on. Also tell your grandaughter to stay away from cell phones because they can trigger seizures and have her cut back on the carbohydrates and starch foods which can also cause seizures. Oh my Gosh-Thank You! She was talking about these horrible dreams and how first it goes totally black, like she is blind, then grey, then white then vivid colors flashing and racing at her. She has said how she feels very confused afterwards and sleepy. She does get the absence stare and I had those as a child.

I spoke with son and her sisters about monitoring her symptoms on a chart (which I made up for them) explaining the doctor will need this to help diagnosis and to keep a close monitoring for the next four weeks but to go to the doctor this week.

Poor little thing was afraid to tell anyone what was happening to her - she fell down a hole and landed on basement stairs when she was about 12 mos old. Terrible to think she feels as if she is being electrocuted constantly. So sad.

So, I've always been concerned for her.

I'm no neurologist but it sounds like your grandaughter may be having complex partial seizures like I have. The reason why I say this is often before a complex partial seizures a person will see different colors in their eyes and it may sometimes flash back and forth from one eye to the other.
After that happens I blank out for a few seconds then I come out of the seizure and I'm a little confused and tired. If I may ask how old is your grandaugther? The reason why I'm asking is because if she's at the age of puberty this is the worst time for many people because the hormones are changing back and forth and that can trigger seizures. Keep an eye on your grandaughter and take note of she's smacking her lips, or pulling her clothing this is another sign of a complex partial seizure. If you don't see her do any of that then she's probably having absence (petit mal) seizures as I had mentioned before. I wish you and your grandaughter only the best and May God Bless You Both!

My 8 year old son is complaining of the same thing, shock sensations in his body. Some that acutally take his breath away. Did you ever find out what it was?? I am so worried.
