coming down with a cold, suggestions?
A few hours ago I started feeling the makings of a cold coming. Sniffles, which is now a partially plugged nose. I also have that heavy feeling in the chest that you get just before a chest cold.
I took some Tylenol, and I'm about to pop a Mucinex. (better check and see if Mucinex has Tylenol) Any suggestions on making this stupid thing back off and not ruin my thanksgiving or tick off the MS Trolls in my head? I've got a couple of bottles of water, which I'm planning on sucking down as the night goes on. I know that fluids really do help. But, I havent had many colds since being diagnosed with MS, and never know what to do to hopefully keep it from making the MS mad. (I do have some Tamiflu, just in case this starts feeling like the flu) I'm a bit irritated. It's kicking in a day before thanksgiving, and I really do not want to give it to my dad. He's got a heart problem, and he's been having a crappy month with some asthma problems and a really bad cough from that (wont go to the doctor, no matter how much I beg him) I've got a mostly full bottle of Purell, and a nice assortment of cold medicines. I hope I at least feel good enough to be able to go to dinner on thursday. (altho, I probably shouldnt. My hypochondriac aunt will be there. I'm a bit evil. I might go just to make her hypochondria go nuts) I hope it isnt the flu. I had a flu shot on friday. (this is what always makes me suspicious of flu shots...getting a cold immediately after a vaccine) Good thing I stocked up on Kleenex the other day. edited to add: Oh, and I have a fever of 100. Great. (work little Tylenols! work!) |
zicam! love the stuff. works like a charm.
Feel better quick. |
Someone told me once that people with MS shouldnt take Zicam because of the zinc in it. Something about it being harmful to people with neurological conditions.
I only had about four hours of sleep last night. Nose still feels like I'm about to get a cold, chest still feels a little clumpy, but it's not a full blown cold yet. (knock on wood!) I dont feel super sick yet. I'm taking my parents out to breakfast while I'm still feeling not super bad. Tired as heck tho. Hope that this is just some weird seasonal allergy. (it's 20 degrees outside. Maybe it's a dust allergy?) I dont wanna have a cold. Back germs! back! |
Sounds like an old cheer..."hold em back, hold em back... way back, way back":D

Maybe a minor reaction to the flu shot??
What about Vitamin C ?? - we use those EmergenC packets (1000mg) that you dissolve in a glass of water and drink. There's probably other types like it now too. They added more sinc ethe last time I looked at their site - I usually get them at a store when I see them on sale. -http://www.emergenc.com/index.php/products/original |
colds and flu
The doctor program on TV said to irregate your nose with saline as it washes out some of the virus. Get some good sleep and the vitamin C sounds good too. Hope you do not get the full blown version of a cold, no one likes that much! Gargle too with salt water Hope your thanks giving is good. ginnie

well, I took my parents out, and then I went xmas shopping all by myself. Still sniffly sneezing, but the cold hasnt kicked in. I'm seriously tired tho. I'm desperate for a nap.
As soon as our decorator is done assembling my mom's laundry hamper thingie and leaves, I'm laying down for a nice nap. I do have a couple of sample bottles of Omnaris. I think that's an allergy nose squirter medication, but I wonder if it works for a cold. I think I'll call the pharmacist and find out. I'm so tired my eyes are crossing and I'm really warm. (tylenol helped last night. That little fever dropped last night) I've been drinking water all day, and that's helping me have to go potty a lot. I think it's helping the sniffly sneezy stuff. Maybe I wont end up sick for Thanksgiving, altho my aunt's turkey soup does sound good if I do end up ill. |
some natural health sites say a mild fever is actually a good thing - it is the body's own system for killing viruses that invade it.
Of it goes beyond the mild range then address the fever. more- http://www.emedicinehealth.com/fever...s/page3_em.htm http://www.google.com/#sclient=psy&h...9933d19f024e3b |
I try to not kill my fever unless it is making me very uncomfy and or it rises above a certain level. its the body's way of killing of the invaders without drugs.
I hope you are feeling better. |
