OK, os I don't know where else to ask, so here it goes, hope it's not TOO offensive
So, since Sunday I have been having the WORST gas I've ever had in my life.
No change to my diet. No change in any routine, not sure why, but it's not calming down. fortunately Laura is working most of the time but seriously, yesterday I offended my DOG and he left the room. Since I have never had bad gas, what do I do? So, sorry but I had to ask. It's not serious enough to call the Dr. :) |
simethicone or gas x really does help. a heating pad on your tummy will also help if you are crampy from it, but the best cure is to avoid those foods that cause that reaction in you.
I hate when my husband eats keilbasa and beans, he crop dusts the living room for 2 days afterwards. |
Sure its not related to Thanksgiving meal or leftovers? :p

Awww! I'm sorry, Earl. First of all, I am sure your wife was well aware of what was going on. Gas does not stop when we sleep. :D:D
It could be some sort of stomach bug. I know several people who have had a stomach bug lately, many of them it was more gas than anything else. Try to keep a bland diet for a few days (foods that are easy to digest) and maybe take some Tums. Those really helped DD19 as she was going through something (don't know what yet). I hope you feel better soon! |
As we age, it may become more difficult to digest vegetables.
These make gas...broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, brussel sprouts, onions, etc... and eating alot of them during the holidays, can be problematic. Taking Beano before a meal with these can help. Also some people have Candida yeast in the bowel, from previous use of antibiotics. This feeds on sugar and white carbs, and produces gas. The way to deal with this is to starve the yeast. Avoid sugar. A third common cause occurs in people who take acid blocking drugs everyday, for long periods of time. This removes the acid in the stomach, and then that results in the protein you eat cannot be broken down properly for digestion. This protein from meat or other sources, moves along and ferments in your bowel...not a pretty situation... and this forms really smelly gas. The protein smell is somewhat different from the other types of gas. A good example is comes from pets, older dogs or kittens tend to have this type, which is where the JOKES tend to spring from. I had a cat once who when she was a kitten, could knock you right over! And my family's older border collie, would come and sleep under my bed when I returned home from college for a visit, and she was soooooooo intense, it would wake me UP! WHEW!!!! The simethicone is good, if your gas is just hurting you. But it doesn't prevent. You know what I saw in the catalog "Solutions" for this Xmas? Charcoal underwear pads you wear to absorb passed gas fumes if you are going out to an important dinner etc... and you wear these! Said they would go with a THONG even! LOL :p This is similar: http://www.flat-d.com/flatdreusable.html The Solutions one was 5 for $9.99! With some patience one can usually find the cause of excess gas. If it persists, there are always some digestive enzymes that may help if your pancreas is giving up the ghost. NOW supplements makes some nice formulas. |
My sympathies to you and the wife and the dog. You may have a tummy bug going around.
ROTFL @ Dej...Crop Dusting?:D:p:D |
Just another reason I treasure my "alone" time!!! :D

Thanks everyone. No leftovers from Thanksgiving, we had a turkey breast instead of a full bird (only 8 of us) and we chose not to take any leftovers home.
It's a little bit better today. I am doing TUMS and hoping it resolves. I will take everyone's advice to consideration. |
A Peptobismol does wonders for me. I keep a bottle of the pink pills in my purse, cuz I never know when I'll need one. Is also available in liquid, but, the pills are easier to take with me.

Hope you feel better!
Hello, Gas can be very painful! I've even heard of people going to E.R. for gas? I just thought I'd tell you about my little story called "Fire in the Turkey Isle" My Mom, went shopping, right before thanksgiving and bent over to pick up a twenty pound Turkey well, a big smelly one slipped out. She said she ran all the way across the store hoping, no one would smell it. As she looked back down the Turkey Isle, 4 Firemen were standing there! I have my own problems too! Just coming off of IV antibiotics for the past 5 months. I have to watch my sugar intake. Hugs, WTR Nymph
