OK, I AM UPSET!!! 1/3 of my closet and wardrobe is destroyed
I must have tiny moths in my closet, i can't find any but I just went in to hang laundry and get my silk bowling shirts and they all have TONS of holes in them, some the size of my fist, some of my pinky nail, what can I do? I hear moth balls help but they stink up my closet, I will deal with the stink before losing more clothes I can't afford to replace them all. DARN IT!!!!!
HELP!!!!!!!!! |
There's a cedar that is used to line closets to keep moths away and long ago I remember buying a moth keep away thing that did not smell bad at Renovation Hardware and maybe by googling you may find answers.

knitters and crocheters will take yarn that's suspected to have moths in it and put it in plastic bags and place it in the freezer for a few months.
There's also fire...you could have a weenie roast, but then you'd have to go shopping for new clothes, so the freezer solution might be better. http://www.epestsupply.com/moths.htm These next two are for keeping moths out of yarn, but I think it'll work for clothing too...at least some clothing. http://knitting.about.com/od/yarn/f/store_wool.htm http://knitting.about.com/od/yarn/f/rid_moths.htm |
I have several huge cedar blocks in my closet. If they lose their smell, you simply sand them down and they smell again.
That ticks me off to have a closet full of nice things only to have the bugs get um. Can some be repaired or is it a total loss? You MUST pull out ALL your clothes. Wash what can be washed. What cant be washed can be stashed in the freezer for at least 24 hours to kill the babies waitng to be born. Then dust down all the shelves, and wipe down the rack. wipe down the walls and then plop in that cedar block. if not, the feast will continue. That stinks! |
cloths
Sorry you lost you cloths to moths. I have a good idea on how to replace at less cost. I lost 60lbs, none of my cloths fit. I started shopping goodwill and being really picky. I now have a closet full of gently used nice cloths. I donated my bigger sizes and felt good about it. It cost very little doing it that way. ginnie:D

cedar wont help, unless you can make the closet air tight.

Thanks everyone
I have read online all over the place that taking clothes out and freezing them, and washing them and cedar doesn't work but Lavender does, Yeah, I am getting some Lavender spray but washing and freezing clothes, that ain't gonna happen, my arms are jello and I could not do that- physically. Keep suggestions coming but I am going to get lavender spray and anything else Lavender I can find in there SOON.

Here is a site you may have read.
http://www.extermine.com/clothes_moths.html Hope you get rid of them. We have cedar shelves in the closet and also a ball of cloves. Seems to work out fine after all these years. |
Maybe airtight storage bags or boxes for the ones that are salvageable after washing them?
|
Cedar does work very well. A Cedar lined closet is the best choice, the closet does not have to be air tight, but must have a good fitting door.
