Seeking help as caregiver for husband
I'm Janet (73) and care for my 78 year old husband. My husband was diagnosed in mid-07 with MG. It isn't his only ailment, but is the one giving him the most problems right now. Breathing problems are the most worrisome for me. He has a meter to gauge how bad it is and has been borderline quite often lately.
Dizziness has also been a big problem lately. Three weeks ago he fell. Because he also has Meylodysplasia and is in stage 4 of kidney failure I can't be sure which is the cause of the dizziness. Gordon takes his Mestinon (60 mg) regularly, every 4 hours while he is awake. Because of back problems he is on pain meds also. He is also diabetic with HBP and takes Lasix for unstable blood pressure. All this is pretty confusing and I probably missed mentioning a few things. Any advice for me? |

It's very nice to meet you and your husband, indirectly. My husband and I are caring for his mom who is 73 and has stage 4 lung cancer with 1 lung removed last Jan 10. It has been a rollar coaster of emotions, exhaustion and fear. She has been living with us since mid Aug. while she went through the chemo, which was very rough for her. During the time she was here we discovered a serious mold problem in her house and had to do major mold remediation which is still going on but in the final stages. So she's still with us. I can only tell you it takes a certain person to be a caregiver, it's very hard because in our circumstance she is in deniel beyond believe. I give you so much credit for caring for your husband and you seem to be right on top of everything. Which as you know is a job in itself. So keep strong the holidays are hard for people in our situation. But I have to remind myself everyday it not me who's sick, so be thankful and just keep going. The links that others provided are excellant so if you have time you might want to read them. Gabbycakes |
