Coming off Benzo's

Hi, I have a question I'm hoping someone can answer. I have been on xanax for at least 3yrs for anxiety and Klonipin for about 2yrs for Trigeminal Neuralgia. my problem is I had to get a new primary dr. and no one will prescribe the benzos to me. That's fine I have been going thru some serious withdrawel from not having any and I got online and re3searched that you weren't supposed to go cold turkey with them but titrate down. Fine but no one will prescribe them to titrate down with, they are all afraid of them. I can't get in to see a psych dr. until March 15th and I don't see pain management till Jan. 15th so does anyone have an idea who or what I can do? I've already missed my grandaughters 1st trick or treat and Thanksgiving cause I have been sick from detoxing. I'm afraid xmas will be the same. I also read that detoxing from these can take 6 months to a year and sometimes longer. Got to do something it's not getting better but worse as time goes by, so any suggestions?

OMG ~ Your previous doc should have given you enough until you got a new doc. This is unacceptable!!! This can be dangerous. You might try the ER - they might give you some, but I highly doubt it.

Take some Benadryl - it will help with the withdrawals. You might have to tke 2 to make you feel the effects. Make sure you drink PLENTY of liquids with nutrients in it, like Gatorade or something. But drink LOTS of liquids. The sooner you can get this stuff out of your system, the better.

The Benadryl won't hurt you. It will just calm the effects of the other stuff.

Best of luck and God bless. Please keep us posted, ok?? Hugs, Lee

Going cold turkey off benzos, can cause seizures! I can't imagine a medical doctor not knowing that. That is such a brutal attitude!

And it is true, it may take months. The Klonopin especially is difficult because it binds tightly to receptors.

Xanax is a fast acting rapidly removed benzo.

I would call around and see if there is a doctor who will taper you properly.

Yeah I'm hoping I can find a dr. who will help me but everyone is so booked up where I live or they aren't accepting new patients. i have been taking 2 benadryl at night to help me relax and sleep because I twitch and jerk alot from the withdrawel. I figure the reason I haven't had a seizure was because I am on Neurontin for the Trigeminal Neuralgia. I have been having migraines, photosensitivity, bluured vision, stomache probs with nausea and vomiting, heart palpitations, muscle jerks and twitches and weakness in my legs. I know it sounds like alot but all of it isn't everyday except the migraine eye problems and muscle jerks. Thats why it took me awhile to put it all together. Since it started this Fall when no one would continue my prescriptions I just thought I was catching viruses and when I told my dr. about the constant headaches she gave me predisone to take. I quit taking it after 2 days because I thought it was upsetting my stomache now who knows if it did or not. I still don't know what type of dr. to try to see about titrating me down tho, I did consider the ER but I know they won't give me anything. i'm about to go out of my mind from the headaches and Tylenol just isn't cutting it!
