Today is an Itchy, Prickley day.......
 

Terms only someone with PN could understand.

My scalp is itchy and prickley, ears are starting to join in too.

This is in addition to my "normal" abnormal sensations all over.

I'm sure you guys could have lived without an update, but nobody else is listening and I know I have a captive audience with you!!

So glad I joined this site!

My advice? Slather on skin lotions and potions!
 

The fewer things unpronouncable? The better. I'll bet your scalp is 'flaking' giant snowflakes, and that the rest of your skin? Well... not nice.

Both help you keep your skin moist when it's not doing that job on it's own.
The ONLY thing that I've found to really help the scalp tho? IS to go to a hair styllist and get a 'hot/heat treatment' Where they slather moisturizers on your head and then put you under a professional hair dryer just for the HEAT. Gotta tell you? IT IS HEAVEN! PLUS
From then on out? You are going to have to take care of that scalp skin as if it were in the desert. Super conditioners and at times [which I have done?] sloshing skin moisturizers on my head to get that durn itch to calm down!
I've other skin treatments? But putting them on leaves a greasy mess and is hard to get off or out. Next? Pay better attention to your nutrition! if your doc has done [and should have done?] a Metabolic blood panel? Get a copy and read about it! Learn about what blood tests of various sorts Mean or could mean, but...don't always mean. IF you are low on some key vitamins, it'll tell you then check out this forum here:

Use the 'search' feature on the top blue bar and read away ....get confused then read more! There is a LOT to take in there. But you can get the gist of what you need and why.
After that? Treat your skin as IF you have diabetes! Even if you don't [as I do not]. That way you keep your skin safe and healthy and it can be one of your best protections in the long run. Don't 'over or under' slather, mind you, only as much as it seems to need and be asorbed. Too much is a waste and also a place where new unwanted things could develop.
OH THOSE ITCHES! How I hated and HATE THEM!

I have that exact same problem. Today I tried Benadryl, to see if it would make it go away, but it didn't!

Mine gets itchy in the back, above the nape of the neck. Drives me crazy. In summer or when I perspire (my scalp perspires a lot) it triples in intensity. I use Selsun Blue shampoo and for flares-1% anti-itch hydrocortisone cream.

Another thought for itchy scalp is Nizoral shampoo OTC.

There is a yeast/fungal organism that can colonize the scalp leading to itching/burning.

When my feet get to burning alot, my scalp will too.

I have always wondered if that is a Candida thing... internally coming to the surface.

Selsun is good too, in fact it is used as a topical lotion overnight for tinea versicolor, which is a normal fungal organism of the skin that goes haywire and causes red/brownish patches on light skin and whitish patches on dark skin. This can take a long time to go away. But Selsun RX is typically used for it. One can have it in the scalp too.

Women can have low grade Candida in the female region,
and using a one day treatment of Tioconazole (generic for Vagistat-1) may knock it out. I always suspect this for women who use alot of antibiotics. Usually doctors take care of this, and Diflucan orally can be tried too... RX only.

Increasing yogurt in the diet, and decreasing sugar can help starve Candida in the colon. Some supplements are made for this called Candida "cleanse"... and contain caprylic acid.
NOW makes a good one called Candida Clear.

For me, my itching is part of the neurological symptoms I'm having. My Dr. and I wondered if it was an allergic reaction to the Lyrica, but the Benadryl didn't work, so now we know its not the Lyrica, its just from what ever I have. My itchy pricklies are all over my body.

(are you surprised?!) I can tell mine are neuro related, not dermatoloigcal, etc..........Rose, when you find out what you have, I think I'll have my answer and vise versa!
