Opening our hearts...

Every religion has its miracles. For Christians, the miracle of Christ's life, death, and resurrection; for Jews, the escape from Egypt and manna in the wilderness; for Muslims, the ascension of Mohammed from Jerusalem to Heaven.

And we have our own miracles of love - our family stories of reconciliations, of recoveries that defy medical explanation but are laid to someone's faith. Perhaps in our faith communities we see other miracles of love - the dispossessed made to feel at home, the hungry fed, bonds of understanding and mutual joy forming across cultural and racial differences. And in our society at large we see, again and again, the outpouring of food and clothing and shelter to unknown victims of disaster.

Of course there are glitches - in personal relationships as in international efforts. Others are not always sensitive to our needs - nor are we to theirs. Given that each of us inhabits a unique and private world, mabe it's a miracle that we get along as well as we do. So at this season of celebraton and longing, let's raise a glass of love wherever we find them - in strangers, in our loved ones, and in our own hearts as well.

Healing After Loss by Martha Whitmore Hickman

This was such a positive thing to read this morning. It's so easy to be negative and to see the glass as half full or even empty sometimes. We all have so much to be thankful for...things we take for granted while lying in our warm beds. Hugs for the room. :grouphug:

I really like this and believe it is sooooo true. Sometimes we want to try to save the world instead of just looking around in our own families and communities to do whatever we can, even if it doesn't seem like much, it can be much to another person, even if it's just a kind word or smile....:grouphug:

I searched around for a thread to post this...without starting a new one.

I feel a great sadness this morning for our human condition, for our society. I tried to put a "good" face on what is going on here in our country...that by the actions of this young man, we will all stop and take a good look at the hostility and the lack of civility we show towards one another. But I am very skeptical.

We live what we learn...when we spend the amt.of $$ on war, when we admire violence, when our favorite tv shows are about serial murderers, when books we read, games we play are filled with violence...can I be suprised that we reap what we sow?

There were "hero's"...people who stepped in and took the bullets for loved ones, tried to help and aid those wounded and dying..and I do "get" mental illness and understand that there are a lot of people on the streets who suffer from it.

How do you change human behavior???? You can't. :(

We need to get rid of guns... I hate them.

Bring all the troops home and give them jobs fixing their own country.

what a mess...
