soooooo.... RSD?

fully recovered from 1st rib scalenectomy dec 1st. man was it hell. i have full range of motion but same symptoms. how about that!!!!!! i have worse pain after the operation and doc says its Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy? anyone have this? TOS ruins our autonomic nervous system so maybe this is the answer to our pain?

Some of the long time TOS members did acquire RSD also after a few years, but sometimes surgery or any small injury can set it off.

We have a pretty active RSD forum here at NT if you want to check it out.

What type of TOS do you have? It sounds like from what you wrote that you have neurogenic. It seems awfully soon to consider it a full recovery from the surgical aspect. What symptoms are you still having? Maybe your body and nerves are still recovering and it will take more time to see the full effects of the surgery. It's great that you have full range of motion, perhaps the pain aspect just needs more time.

Time the healer

One time I averted a root canal because it took so long to get the referral that the nerve healed. Don't underestimate time, and it is longer as you get older. Be careful during the healing. Listen to your body.

One month is definitely too early to expect to be pain free or symptom free. I returned to work 6 weeks post op because I had to (husband unemployed and I used up my "vacation" time). See if you can get an rx for physical therapy. PTs can use different modalities to help the area begin to calm down. It could be RSD but it also may not be RSD yet. I seem to remember week 3 to 5 being worse than week 1 and 2 post surgery.
