ulcers
Hey Everyone
sorry I havent been on lately, have had some bad stomach pains going on, and going to the docs to try and figure whats going on. Long story short this "specialist" sticks a scope down my throat, and one up another area ( per my request, I said do the mouth first LOL, sorta shocked him I think but hey, thats my wicked humor and I do know they use different scopes) So I just got back from going over the results, stomach ulcers and one big one that he says looks like its going to pop ? huh, what....so Im like well then cant you go in and like laser it or something....his reply, well lets try taking this med first...protonix....Ive been on Ranididine,Prilosec, then Nexium, dnd now another one? Why do they (drs.) want to push med after med instead of just fixing the darn thing? I dont take NSAIDS, I dont drink ( although Im tempted but its just not my thing) I dont fry foods or eat fast foods, what am I doing wrong? anyone else suffer from ulcers since getting RSD, could there be a connection, or maybe im just too stressed...... sorry, venting a bit too, d&^%$ doctors anyways |
I don't have an answer for you but SORRY you are going through this pain.
You are AMAZING though to have such a sense of humor!!! All I can offer are hugs!:hug::hug: |
Ulcers
Hello,
Yes, I've just recently dealt with having ulcers and viral hepatitis. I was also told to take medication - prilosec. I decided that I wasn't going to take medication but changed my diet drastically. I took out of my diet: pop caffeine acidic fruits tomatoes/tomato sauce dairy fried foods fatty foods no preservatives What I did eat for the first month: Bananas toast with small amt of butter jasmine rice chicken WATER!!! Be careful about constipation. Eat very little but more often. Always keep something in your stomach. Drink at least 60 oz a day of water. It's been since September 13th when I was diagnosed. I have lost 30 lbs. Over the last month I have gradually added healthy things to my diet. 2 weeks ago I had a repeat endoscopy and my ulcers have healed and my liver tests are normal. In addition my cholesterol is normal. My ulcers were NOT h.pylori positive. If you have that bacteria, I would not recommend doing what I did... Good luck.. |
I agree with everything Dealingwithtos said, and I would add, that soda crackers really helped me when I was feeling 'over acidy'. My theory was if it was white or tan, I could probably eat it. Any other color I avoided. Smaller bites and smaller meals are good too the stomach doesn't have to work as hard to 'chew' the stuff up. I also found that I could eat an Arby's roast beef sandwich because the beef is so thin. Only 320 calories and if I ate only half at a time, BONUS. They used to be on sale for 4 for $5 and my husband would buy a bag and that would be what I added to my cottage cheese, cheerios, tapioca, chicken noodle soup, and soda cracker diet.
Stress is the big thing, but some of us have genetics that work against us. Here's to a quiet day for your tummy! pat e |
Yep, I agree too.
The reason for small meals is so that when your stomach creates acid, there's something there to soak it up. FYI- when you eat, your stomach also creates acid. So, if you don't eat as much, your stomach is lined with food, yet not full. Always eat small meals. I would eat 1/2 the roast beef sandwich and in a few hours eat the other half. Cut what you eat down. I would eat no more than 1 cup of food at a time. I would not eat cottage cheese or the tapioca pudding. I had a hard time eating yogurt. Actually, I still do. One of the biggest theories is that if you drink milk, it coats your stomach thus reducing pain. That's totally not true. Other things to avoid that I forgot are: Chocolate Sugar Flavored Water - PLAIN ONLY I also took Aloe to help my stomach. |
hi
Hi andt thankyou for your suggestions. I gave up the mountain dew back when this started, that and pringles, gawd do I miss them  but I noticed they only made things worse. Im still drinking one cup of coffee in the morning though :( I cant eat tomatoes because Im allergic to them ( even though Ive been known to sneak one or two of those cherry tomatoes, yum, I do pay the price and its a rare thing) no fried foods though, no fast food chains either. I have been trying the "brat" diet though and Im still hurting bad but I guess it just takes time. The protonics doesnt seem to be helping either but I will take the full dose like the "specialist" wants.
Yanno this has been been a bummer for me, so much I cant do because of RSD and now I have to watch/eliminate the one of the few things left that I did love: food, go figure. Ive lost 10 pounds though, which is not a good thing for me, but Im really running out of options here. Why dont they just go in an laser them? seems to me that would be the quickest fix....but I guess thats why they get paid the big bucks, string em along until its the last option. I do go back again in 2 weeks and if that dude even suggests another pill.....well lets just say I wont be held responsible for the words that come out of my mouth lol. I really do appreciate your suggestions and taking the time to respond  Dee |
hi pat
thank you also, Im a big cracker eater, I get nauseous wicked easy and crackers seem to help so I do have a package near me always. I dont like cottage cheese or yougort, blech lol, but I do eat my cheerios every morning. No H.pylori, forgot to mention that. I do have a lot of stress though but next Tuesday im starting a silversneakers program at one of the fitness centers here in town, Ive a feeling though Im gunna be the only one in my age group there though but at least I should be able to keep up, well I sure hope I can lol.
thank you again  Dee |

Ha, I had crackers at my bedside, in my car..... I only ever eat cottage cheese when I was seriously nauseous, I don't like it normally. But I was always a stomach on the edge of nausea until about a year and a half ago I asked my dr if he would prescribe me something to help lose some weight before my son's wedding. I had tried over the counter stuff, counting calories, yada, yada. Well he gave me Adiphex for 30 days and the first pill I took within an hour, my stomach and I both knew that for the first time maybe in my lifetime my stomach was better. When I went back in 30 days, I said you'll have to have a serious reason to get me to stop taking this med. It is a fight or flight response adjuster and he figures that redirects the blood flow when you have that response(now don't quote me on that). And that the constant flow of blood to my stomach area was keeping it overstimulated. It is an ADD treatment too. But I haven't had even one upset stomach in a year and a half. Ha before I could barely go a day and a half, and my whole reason to eat was to keep my stomach quiet. I am grateful that I was on this med when I had the accident that led to the RSD or I would have one super unhappy tummy. It took quite a while for my ulcer to heal, so don't expect miracles. Just be careful what you put in your mouth. I know what you mean about eating being the only thing you do that doesn't cause or lead to pain. And oh, I have at least 20 or so pounds you could have if you are desperate!??!?!!? And no, I did not lose any weight before the wedding, I had the accident and I look like a puffball in the pics. Once a puffball, always a puffball. Stay away from the pringles, it is the salt and the fat. Try oatmeal. prayers for a hurried healing, pat |
hi Pat
Pringles withdrawals are over, but man I sure do miss them lol. I cannot even stomach to look at cottage cheese, never could, and I get nauseous even thinking about those curled little ballie mush things rofl, I am getting a good chuckle over it though, between the dry gagging LOL
I will ask my pcp about the Adiphex though, maybe he'll et me try it, he's funny though on what I can and cannot take which I suppose is a good thing... If I could take that extra 20 from ya I would, I lose anymore weight their gunna think Im anorexic ( and please know Im not making fun of anyone who suffers from this) When I went to my pcp Monday to go over the "specialist" report, apparently I have ulcers in my colon too, Im like huh? apparently the "s" forgot to mention this, friggin doctors  I guess Im just worried its gone internal, and I should get back to L.A. asap, I was just putting it off as long as possible because I hate IVs, ah well. thankyou for the chuckles on the cottage cheese though, I almost forgot how much that stuff wigs me out lol  Dee |
