I'm a moron

I'm trying so hard not to buy anything I don't need (no COLA, health insurance premiums up, etc.) Would I LIKE new stuff? Sure. Do I NEED new stuff? Nope. I mean, how many pairs of pants can you wear at once, right?

A sweatshirt alone isn't warm enough some days, so I wear a turtleneck underneath. That IS my winter wardrobe. I have one turtleneck that I really, really like...L L Bean pima cotton, lightweight, comfortable neck that doesn't feel like a noose. But I only have one.

Decided to find a couple more pima cotton turtlenecks in white and/or ivory, maybe light blue to wear with my "wardrobe" of sweatshirts, and my sweaters when I'm out and about. Went to L L Bean and decided I couldn't afford two at that price.

Went to another site, found a clearance/outlet, and got FOUR turtlenecks for the price of the two at LLB! Well, first, I didn't NEED four turtlenecks. Second, they aren't as comfortable as the LLB turtleneck. I could have had two nice comfortable shirts, and now I have four nice uncomfortable turtlenecks.

Just another example of NOT THINKING before I click "buy". grrrrr.

is it too late to call and cancel the order?
Can you refuse the package and let them credit the money back to your account?
Do they have a return policy? Many times if you dont open the box, and simply take it back to the post office, they return it for FREE! once that company gets the box, they simply credit the account that was charged for the product.

Even on sale, uncomfortable things are not a bargain. LLBean holds clearance sales this time of year. Can you check out their webiste? Many sears stores now offer an LL Bean section, perhaps you can visit one in person?

Im sorry you are struggling.

You're not alone, B2Y. :o

It's not been easy (or quick enough....for me) but I think I've finally tamed the beast of "spontanious purchasing".

If I'm online - which is really the only way I shop anymore - I put what I think I need and want in my cart. You can save the cart so that when you go back to the site the items you chose are still in there.

Then the game begins. I wait a full 24 hours before I actually buy anything. Nine times out of ten when I go back and view my cart I'm appalled at the stuff I've put in there. What on earth made me think I needed all these things? It must be somewhat therapeutic to do this, though, because I enjoy picking out the items and putting them in the cart but I get more enjoyment out of deciding not to buy it all and knowing that I've made a smart decision. I'm trying to downsize.....and I've actually become somewhat of a minimalist. Like you, I don't need umpteen different outfits to choose from.

Try making a game out of it. A challenge. Shop all you want and fill your cart as much as you want. Just don't click that "pay now" button till you've cleaned out your cart!

P.S. Try ebay. You can get great deals on brand name things there.

Can't return the one I'm wearing, that's for sure! :D They're actually good turtlenecks, from my dear friends at Lands End, and they really WERE a good buy at $10-12 each. Just disgusted with myself for not putting on my thinking cap before I went e-shopping.

I've found MANY things on ebay over the years...it doesn't matter what you're looking for; if you plug it into the "we found one for you" app, it will show up eventually. Once I wanted a grey sleeveless long-length travel dress from LL Bean in a size medium, and within about three weeks somebody had one for sale. Score!

I could easily be a shopaholic, and it is so against my core values. I'm worse when it comes to other people, but bad enough for myself. If someone tells me he wishes he could find purple wool socks with monkeys embroidered on them, you can bet I'll be online that night finding him a pair, and buying them for him. Whether I can afford it or not.

I meant to tell you this before......but you're not a moron.

Try "window shopping" and put whatever you want in your cart. It's fun! Then, go back in a day and look at your cart. I'll bet you delete most if not all of the things you chose. I tell you it's therapeutic! ;) And it doesn't cost anything!

As far as the purple wool socks with monkey's go......you're just a sweet, caring person who's usually thinking of others. Nothing wrong with that. Wish more people were like that.

(((((Blessings))))) You are not a moron, just spontanious.....ME TOO.

Kelly, I do just what you do and fill my cart and then delete half of it before I buy. I do this a lot at Schwans..:D

My moron/idiot time is when I'm buying gifts for my Grands.. ..I have no control.

LOL Twink!
I was just thinking along the same lines, only I was thinking about this sit on top kayak I saw and how good it would look on me!:D

I like Kitty's idea. I may just start doing that instead of filling and NOT deleting the items in the cart!

B2, my Dad loved those turtlenecks! He was a mailman for many years in Massachusetts and wore them under his uniform in the wintertime and when he needed more, they HAD to be Beans because of the neck and the color. I was the designated LLB's shopper because I got an outfitter's discount, I was the closest to the store AND the outlets and I could be trusted to get exactly what he wanted: 5 Size medium dark blue or slate blue. I miss doing his shopping for him since it gave me an excuse to drool over everything they had when I couldn't afford anything myself!

B2Y - Don't put yourself out shopping for me. Just send money. 8-D

I'm a "tad" disappointed in the turn of this thread. I thought it was going to address my challenges of being a spontaneous moron? I must have missunderstood. I'm such a moron!
