my trial goes in Monday
nervous and excited. CRPS in my right foot and leg. meds have worked (on my third different cocktail) but never for long. blocks were epic fails.
any advice?? what will my activity limits be? I am nervous about being able to at least wash my hair over thhe tub.. can I? |
Welcome Mel
Now, I reckon our lady friends on here can give much better advice regarding the washing of hair, but I was to be exceedingly careful during the trial because there was really nothing holding the trial leads in place but a couple of sutures at the exit point through my skin, taped down securely, but strictly told to limit bending, reaching, washing and the like since the leads and their placement security during the trial is pretty tenuous. So, like a good little kid I behaved and, as a guy, had dirty hair for a week.
Probly NOT what you want to hear, and some of my female friends here will likely chide me, but then that is partly why I am part of the group, to provide that outlet..... May your Trial procedure go extremely well, be very productive, and demonstrate to you and your doc whether the SCS is a best solution for you like it was for me. I so.... SO took pleasure in the stim produced ending of my burning leg pain, that I did not want them to remove it at trial's end. ALL of the BEST to you, Prayin, Mark56:hug: |
All the best for this ... Not had mine yet so I can't give you any advice on much !

Wishing you the best.....
Hello there!
I sure understand where you're at! It IS indeed an exciting/nervous time. Just try to 'relax' in to this the best you can. I remember getting way too stressed out and it was so not necessary. I scrubbed my head REAL good the morning of the trial :o and wore pony tail for the 3-4 days. At least it's not summertime, so you probably won't be sweating. Sponge baths and powder :p. Wear loose fitting clothing and just try to concentrate on what the trial is all about. The first day or 2 you will probably feel rather sore from the procedure itself, so don't let that bring you down. Just rest on ice. By day 3 you'll feel up to moving around your house and giving it a real 'go'.... It didn't take me long at all to realize that I could 'bond' with this creepy wirey thingy in my back . The stimulation is a welcome soothing feeling that covers over the horrible burning leg pain. I would be very cautious about bending over the tub. Maybe stand over your kitchen sink? If you don't have a nozzle sprayer, you can use a pitcher of water and give yourself a hairwash if you are absolutely going nuts about it.....otherwise, maybe wear a cap of some sort or do whatever it takes to feel good about yourself. The time goes pretty fast after the first day or so. And then, when they pull the leads out after the trial is done, it is NOTHING! I didn't feel a thing when they pulled them out. So don't worry about that. Keep us in the loop!! We're excited to hear how this goes for you! Caring Rae  |
Thanks Rae! I will HAVE to wash my hair because I am going back to work the next day. I am VERY VERY fortunate that my CRPS is mild. My meds keep the majority of the burning away but we are hoping the scs will eliminate the need for meds and my pain dr thinks if we take this aggressive approach and actually get ahead of the pain, we might be able to put this into remission as mild as I have it. I know alot of people would kill for my current pain level (2-3 most days) but I still feel if I could get pain-free it is worth it. If 2-3 is the best I could do fine, if not... I am not accepting it as "lucky"
My husband will help me wash my hair... he's a sweetie |
All the best to you
Here is a boat load:Good-Luck: of hopes and prayers that your trial goes VERY well!
