Virginia Wolf quotes

I love quotes and these were sent to me today. Apparently it is/was Virginia Wolf's (the great writer's) birthday today. She is thought to have had Bipolar Disorder. I understand she had limited education....but it didn't slow her down. She is considered a literary genuis.

Here are the quotes:

It is harder to kill a phantom than a reality.

One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well.

Women have served all these centuries as looking-glasses possessing the magic and delicious power of reflecting the figure of a man at twice its natural size.

We can best help you to prevent war not by repeating your words and following your methods but by finding new words and creating new methods.

Why are women ... so much more interesting to men than men are to women?

I read the book of Job last night, I don't think God comes out well in it.
All from Virginia Woolf, 1882 - 1941

With all the discussion around here re: food I particularly got a kick out of the one that I put in bold face! :)

I like Virginia Wolfe, too!

The first book by her I read was "To the Lighthouse." At 1st I found it difficult to read because she tends to write mostly in the style of stream of consciousness. That makes a lot of sense when you consider she is thought to have had BPD.

She was discouraged from writing because they thought it stimulated her too much. What a disappointment it would have been to miss out on her literary contributions.

Lots of her stuff shows the struggle she had with sanity.
Here is one that I find a little funny:

"I really don't advise a woman who wants to have things her own way to get married"
— Virginia Woolf

That's a great one, Mari!
