Dry mouth from meds

I have a horrible dry mouth from meds, to the point where it's causing dental issues. I have a swollen lip, a cut at the side of my mouth, sores in my mouth, etc. I'm using Biotene mouth wash, medicated mouth rinse, rinsing with salt water, keeping water by the bed & sipping constantly, using lip balm, etc.

Any other ideas? I hate to complain about a side effect when it's nowhere near the pain in my leg, but it's just so very annoying.

Happy weekend to all!

I chew gum but none with aspartame, and chew on a toothpick or floss pick. I had one med that was drying mine out that bad, I just cut it back. I don't need dental issues on top of everything else. The gum I use is hubba bubba because you can tear off as small a piece as you need.

The more physically active I am, the more dryness I notice.
If I thought I could get by with a small rock in my mouth I would, but I'm afraid I would swallow it!

So mostly I just put the floss pic in my mouth and chew on it lightly, just enough to make saliva.

I chew a bit of gum in church.

I also get extreme dry mouth from my meds. I use biotene toothpaste, mouth wash, and mouth moisturizer. I also chew biotene gum as well as other sugar free gum. It helps most of the time.

My thanks to both of you. I'm going to try the gum especially. I did not realize that Biotene made a gum as well. Hopefully it will help; this is getting to be ridiculous, I'm afraid.

This can become a serious problem. It happened to me. Your mouth needs the natural saliva to keep decay from growing. When I was on a morphine sulfate, and from what I have been told they are the worse meds. in this regard, my mouth was so dry it did damage and quickly like 4 months. The dentist told me to stop taking it which I did my PM Doctor switched me to something else. But what important is the dentist RXed a medication that brings saliva to the mouth. I don't remember the name it began with an R. Ask you dentist.

I have this too and on top of it I am doing orthodontic work that also dries my mouth out.I also have a huge sore and cuts. I could of written just what you have. I read to have hard candy the sour kind may help more to stimulate. Who knows if that is true though. Limit caffeine and drink plenty of water. For the sores have you looked at foods that may trigger these? I am starting to wonder if that impacts mine. Also under more stress I seem to get them as well.

That sour hard candy is ok occasionally but it will cause more problems if you need to use it regularly because of meds side effects. The citric acid that makes the sour will eat away at your mouth and leave a canker sore. That's why I think if I could just find a small stone that I wouldn't swallow I would use it, but if I did ....... there are so many questions. hahhaa.

I love Lifesaver's Cremesavers, although my dryness was never as bad as your's sounds.

Thank God I'm off the Nortriptyline (?sp) now, so I don't have that issue anymore.

Gram thank you so much for that. I have been getting canker sores. I have a huge one right now.

I use Atomic Fireballs. They last a long time, and they cinnamon helps keep my mouth feeling fresh. Not so much with gum as I have TMJ and it makes my jaw hurt. I have not been able to figure out which med is the one that does this or if it is just all of them. It gets really bad when I have to do a speaking presentation or interview.
