Alpha Lipoic Acid

I found out I have minor erosions in stomach (from the endoscopy I had done) The Dr. describes them as pre-ulcers. Gave me med. to tone down the acid in my stomach.

Made me wonder if Alpha Lipoic Acid (key word being acid), would be a bad idea with stomach ulcers?

Alpha Lipoic Acid isn't nearly as strong an "acid" as what's normally found in the stomach. Nevertheless, whatever your doc gave you to tone down your stomach may also tone down (neutralize) the alpha lipoic.

I'd call the doc or my pharmacist to ask. I'm guessing they'll say if you're concerned, forgo the alpha lipoic until your stomach heals, which shouldn't be very long...

Take the alpha lipoic with food. There should be no problem.

Drugs do not remove ALL acid in the stomach....and the ALA is a very small amount compared the the HCL that would remain.
